In 2009 the organization expanded to become a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), serving patients of all incomes, ethnicities and walks of life. Job Summary:

The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment within the facility, performing basic maintenance tasks, and occasionally assisting with outdoor upkeep such as landscaping. This role ensures the facility remains in optimal condition inside and out, contributing to a welcoming environment for employees and visitors. This position may also be required to assist with internal deliveries and facilities support at other FLCH locations.


Main Responsibilities:


    Indoor Cleaning and Sanitizing:

    • Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and floors.
    • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors in offices, hallways, and common areas.
    • Dust and wipe down surfaces, including desks, windowsills, fixtures, and office equipment.
    • Empty trash and recycling bins; dispose of waste appropriately.
    • Replenish supplies in restrooms and kitchens, such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.
    • Clean and maintain common areas such as lobbies, kitchens, and break rooms.


    Basic Maintenance:

    • Perform minor repairs, such as fixing leaky faucets, replacing light bulbs, and tightening loose fixtures.
    • Assist with basic plumbing tasks, such as unclogging drains and toilets.
    • Conduct routine checks of heating, cooling, and lighting systems to ensure they are functioning correctly.
    • Report larger maintenance issues, such as electrical problems or major repairs, to the Facilities Manager.
    • Assemble and move furniture or equipment as needed.
    • Assist with painting, patching walls, and other small maintenance projects as assigned.
    • Maintain cleaning and maintenance equipment in good working condition.


    Occasional Outdoor Maintenance:

    • Mow small lawn areas, trim edges, and maintain the immediate landscaping around the facility entrance.
    • Perform light landscaping tasks such as weeding, removing debris, and watering plants.
    • Operate basic landscaping tools, such as push mowers and trimmers, safely and effectively.
    • Inspect outdoor areas for safety hazards and report any issues.


    Safety and Compliance:

    • Follow all health and safety regulations to ensure a secure work environment.
    • Use appropriate cleaning and maintenance chemicals safely and store them properly.
    • Identify and report potential hazards or unsafe conditions within the facility and grounds.


    Education and Qualifications:

    • High School or Equivalency Diploma required
    • The ability to work flexible hours -- some evenings are required
    • A valid New York State drivers license in compliance with FLCH drivers policy


    Physical Requirements:

    • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
    • Must be able to reach above shoulder level to work, bend, squat, sit, stand, stoop, and kneel.
    • Must have vision that is adequate to read memos computer screen, registration forms, and other documents.
    • OSHA Level II
