Supervisory Paralegal Specialist

This position is located in the Criminal Section (CRM or Section). As the Supervisory Paralegal Specialist, you will train, coordinate and supervise a team of paralegals to provide support to teams of attorneys and staff during the investigation and prosecution of federal criminal civil rights cases.

The incumbent will serve as a Supervisory Paralegal Specialist. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Serves as a supervisor and senior paralegal specialist providing support for the Division's CRM attorneys and investigators;
- Provides supervision for assigned unit personnel engaged in providing paralegal support;
- Plans, develops, and facilitates training and developmental opportunities for staff, and trains paralegal specialists to achieve independence in handling more complex tasks;
- Utilizes the most recent technology advances and databases, as well as a variety of computer applications, including word processing, database, spreadsheet, and telecommunications;
- Provides trial support for the most complex and high-profile cases;
- Reviews citizen correspondence to ensure appropriate, timely responses and consults with paralegals regularly on their docket assignments;
- Obtains and receives approval of contract requests from Section personnel for needs in complex, high-profile cases;
- Serves as the Section's Language Access Coordinator; and
- Other duties assigned.
$86,962 - $113,047/year
Conditions of Employment- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.

Specialized Experience Requirements
To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, candidates must have one (1) year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, public or other private sectors that is directly related to the position as listed above and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience for this position includes ALL of the following:
- Providing daily direction to paralegal staff, including planning and assigning work, establishing performance expectations, training and evaluating staff;
- Litigation paralegal experience, including trial experience;
- Preparing for hearings and court appearances by briefing attorneys, assembling and arranging case files, documents, and exhibits;
- Conducting factual and legal research;
- Providing technical and administrative advice and guidance.

In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled.
