POSITION SUMMARY:
The Human Resources Director for Saltchuk Aviation Shared Services oversees the Human Resources function for Northern Air Cargo, Northern Air Maintenance Services, and Saltchuk Aviation Shared Services in Anchorage, AK. This role is responsible for strategic planning and collaboration, compliance oversight, and standardization of the function across brands, where appropriate. The HR Director also serves as a liaison with the Saltchuk Human Resources department and collaborates as part of the Saltchuk HR Leadership Team.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- As a member of the SASS HR Leadership Team, participate in developing employee compensation and benefits, employee relations and general employment policies and procedures as the NAC, NAMS, and SASS representative.
- Recommend benefit plan design and offerings including insurance, ancillary benefits, and other perks offered to employees, oversee open enrollment and benefit strategy.
- Make recommendations and collaborate with leaders on key decision making in a variety of areas.
- Drive new processes, as well as being responsible for introducing enhancements to existing processes or programs, with an eye toward continuous improvement.
- Supervise local HR team.
- Lead the implementation of audit programs that ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations such as EEO, ADA, FMLA, W/C, airport security and OSHA for NAC.
- Oversee the organizations compliance with all FAA, PHMSA, and DOT drug and alcohol regulations.
- Collaborate with the Safety Department on assessment and implementation of workers compensation claims and the Injury Management Programs. Provide oversight on administration of the workers compensation and injury management function.
- Develop and lead required NTSB Family Assistance Program initiatives for NAC.
- Responsible for development and implementation of Human Resources programs including recruitment, onboarding, benefits, recognition, employee relations, HRIS, etc.
- Coordinate all regulatory and contractual Human Resources activities as required for NAC.
- Represent NAC in collective bargaining and related labor relations issues for represented employees.
- Lead, coach, and develop the local human resources team to ensure succession planning, individual professional development, and coverage of services.
- As a member of the SASS HR Leadership Team, participate in developing, establishing, and maintaining compensation philosophy and structure, including periodic wage studies and market analysis. Lead annual compensation review and periodic wage adjustments outside of annual review, in conjunction with SASS HR Leadership Team.
- Lead annual performance review process. Coach and guide managers throughout NAC, NAMS, and SASS on how to handle employee issues and concerns, enforce company policies, and ensure knowledge of resources available to them.
- Address employee relations matters by considering both the company's objectives and the employee's perspective.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Comprehensive knowledge of human resource management, including laws and regulations governing the employee services functions.
- Labor Relations experience, including bargaining, addressing grievances and arbitrations strongly preferred.
- Experience working in the aviation field preferred.
- Experience working a highly regulated environment strongly preferred.
- Effective leadership and interpersonal skills to communicate with a wide variety of audiences including senior level managers, regulatory agencies, contractors, company-wide peers, subordinates, and others.
- Ability to calculate and analyze key metrics to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Strong proficiency in utilizing HRIS systems, UltiPro preferred.
- Strong proficiency in MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, etc.).
- Travel out of state and/or within the state of AK will be required for this position; approximately 5-10% of the time.
- Must be able to pass pre-employment background check and drug screening.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5-8 years equivalent level experience as a Director of Human Resources, including prior experience with auditing of records and ensuring compliance with regulatory and/or contractual requirements.
- Undergraduate college degree in business, human resources, or related field is preferred. Extensive experience may be substituted.
- A professional certification in HR (i.e. PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP) preferred. Combination of education or experience may be substituted at company discretion.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Typically works in an office environment with adequate lighting and ventilation and a normal range of temperature and noise level.
