Job Title: Forklift Operator

Job Description

Operators will perform a variety of tasks in the warehouse to ensure customer orders are filled and ready for delivery in a timely manner. This includes general cleaning, washing hoses, cleaning and disposing of large totes and drums, filling liquid chemical orders, and handling materials using sit-down forklifts. The primary function of this role is to handle liquid chemicals used for water treatment, with potential cross-training to mix solid and liquid chemicals in the future.

Responsibilities
  • Take direction from the shift manager to fill customer orders, including filling totes or drums with liquid chemicals.
  • Stage filled orders at the dock and load trucks upon arrival.
  • Clean hoses, tidy the warehouse, and clean drums as needed.
  • Use electronic pallet jacks and sit-down forklifts to move finished totes or palletized drums and stage them in labeled rows.
  • Accurately fill out paperwork, including process conditions, test results, instrument readings, and shipping paperwork.
  • Spend significant time washing and disposing of used totes, and cutting down and washing trashed drums, especially during the initial period to clear backlog work.
Essential Skills
  • Experience with sit-down forklifts (at least 6 months).
  • Experience in a manufacturing or production job, or a labor-intensive role.
  • Strong customer focus and attention to detail for tasks such as labeling and selecting correct items.
  • Willingness and ability to work outside as needed, including drum washing.
  • Ability to wear steel-toed shoes.
  • Ability to take direct feedback on work performance and processes.
  • Willingness to work with chemicals safely by following procedures.
  • Willingness to shave beard to fit into a respirator as needed.
Shift & Pay
  • 1st shift (4am-12pm)
  • Mid Shift (8am-4pm)
  • 2nd shift (12pm-8pm, sometimes until 8:30pm to finish a truck).

Work Environment

While weekend work is not mandated, employees often work extra hours to ensure tasks are completed. Operators must wear protective equipment, including bump cap, safety glasses, gloves, respirator in some areas, and a 'chemical suit'. The warehouse is temperature-controlled to an extent but can get warm, especially in the summer. Main chemicals handled include Phosphates, Sodium Hypochlorite, Caustic Soda, and various coagulants.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Camby, Indiana.
