Your Career
The Director of Revenue Operations is a key Palo Alto Networks accounting team member. This individual will report to the VP of Revenue Operations, lead Palo Alto Networks’ key revenue accounting and operations areas, and be a strategic business partner who advises on the direction of the business, operational improvements and executes operational excellence. She or he will oversee and ensure the timely and accurate delivery of revenue results. This individual will also provide leadership in developing effective financial reporting to ensure the financial integrity of revenue.
He or she will serve as a key confidante and trusted advisor to the VP of Revenue Operations and CAO of Palo Alto Networks on revenue accounting and related financial control matters. He or she will be a strong communicator with responsibility for educating the senior leadership team on important revenue issues. The individual we seek is intelligent, agile, pragmatic, hard working and a quick thinker.
The candidate will be responsible for overseeing revenue close accounting activities, leading projects, developing new processes and improving the month-end revenue close process. He or she brings a compelling track record of delivering shareholder value as a senior accounting leader in a complex, public organization. She or he brings a breadth of finance experiences, business acumen, and leadership skills to the role. We seek a collaborative, assertive, and energetic executive who is passionate about creating value for the Company; he or she will have exceptional intellect, emotional intelligence, business and finance acumen, and leadership skills to develop and deliver a vision for the revenue operations team.
Your Impact
Accounting & Controls
Manage specific areas of revenue accounting, including transactional, internal controls and SEC reporting
Evaluate current accounting practices and policies to ensure continuous improvement and meet current and future requirements
Lead the Company’s revenue close process, including management reporting metrics and, importantly, the accurate and timely reporting of revenue
Continually evaluate opportunities to drive greater efficiencies and effectiveness in processing and the close process while ensuring a balanced workload within the organization
Operational Finance Leader & Thought Partner
Serves as a trusted advisor to the CAO and CFO, and other senior leaders on revenue accounting, financial reporting, process, systems and control matters
Serves as a key partner to the CAO and CFO on strategic business initiative by understanding and communicating the accounting and finance implications of various growth strategies and transactions
Data Integrity
Provides robust data management practices with consistent definitions, ensuring Palo Alto Networks has a single view of the financial and business facts to support management decisions
Team Leader
Lead a high-performing and high-potential team, serving as a strong positive leader, coach, and advisor who is willing to roll up his or her sleeves to work alongside the team and sharing process and technical expertise to continually improve the organization’s capabilities
Lead a team in multiple locations with employees and work performed in an international center of excellence. Instill a performance culture resulting in meaningful cross-functional business process transformation and automation to increase efficiency and effectiveness, as well as meeting the needs of a high growth business in multiple locations
Your Experience
Senior Accounting Leadership
12+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally beginning in a Big Four public accounting firm
Recent experience as a Director of Revenue Accounting in complex public company settings is ideal. Public company/SEC reporting, revenue recognition, SOX compliance experiences are required
Relevant Organizational Experience
Experience working in a publicly traded, global company with a team geographically disbursed
Experience building and up-leveling high-performing accounting and controls organizations
Revenue Recognition
Expert in ASC 606 revenue recognition accounting principles within enterprise and SaaS / software companies
Driving Results
Create a clear strategic vision for the team supporting Palo Alto Networks’ business objectives and executing on that to ensure the business meets and surpasses its goals
Demonstrate a strong sense of urgency in meeting targets, routinely benchmarking his or her own work and the team’s work to drive operational excellence
Proactively seek to improve processes and implement best in class solutions, raise quality and productivity
Leading People
Engage the accounting team to understand Palo Alto Networks’ direction and organizational vision and how accounting contributes to larger, strategic goals
Comfortable leading a diverse international team
Collaborating and Influencing
Partner cross-functionally with a genuine give-and-take approach, where both act as true peers and decisions are shared to further Palo Alto Networks
Spend time identifying all stakeholders necessary and meet or connect with all of them, be inclusive to shape a collective consensus
Education and Professional Credentials
An undergraduate degree in accounting, finance, economics, or a related field is preferred or equivalent military experience
CPA is required

The Team
The team is a fun group of specialists who are responsible for ensuring our consolidated revenue results are complete and accurate with policies, procedures and systems ensuring compliance with GAAP and other regulatory standards. They work closely with other departments, such as IT, FP&A, sales operations, legal, investor relations, product development to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
Compensation Disclosure
The compensation offered for this position will depend on qualifications, experience, and work location. For candidates who receive an offer at the posted level, the starting base salary (for non-sales roles) or base salary + commission target (for sales/commissioned roles) is expected to be between $192000 - $264500/YR.
