Position Overview

This is an onsite position consisting of clerical and simple technical responsibilities. This position will provide support to the TRIO Office and/or to one or more of the Pre-College TRIO Programs (Upward Bound, Upward Bound Math Science, Educational Opportunities Center, Talent Search, Veterans Upward Bound).

Hours per Week

35 hours per week during the summer semester between the hours of 8am - 5pm, Monday - Friday, with a 10-hour minimum per week.

College/Department Overview

The TRIO office is looking for mature, responsible, and outgoing student staff to assist with general office operations and TRIO program support for the 2024 summer semester.

The Federal TRIO Programs (TRIO) are Federal grant outreach and student services programs funded by the U.S. Department of Education designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. This position will be working with TRIO Pre-college programs and providing support to individuals preparing for a college.

Department Specific Job Functions

Office Assistant

(General Office Duties) Reception coverage to welcome guests and visitors and direct them to the appropriate department/program. Pick-up and deliver documents to campus offices. Help with maintaining and organizing the general office supply storage and alert the TRIO administrative team when supplies are low. Ensure the office printer is loaded with paper and functioning properly at the beginning of each shift, and to report to the TRIO administrative team any issues. Assists maintain TRIO pre-college employee portal using Microsoft office 365 SharePoint Sites and other Microsoft Products. Assist program staff with creating presentations, flyers, and maintaining websites and social media accounts. Provide simple technical support with setup of computers and presentations. Monitor TRIO computer lab on a routine basis and provide basic technical support to student users, and accurately report technical problems to supervisor. Comfortable working independently to complete assigned tasks and take initiative to assist in other areas of need for the office. Program Assistant

(Program Specific Duties)

Assist program staff with creating presentations, flyers, and maintaining websites and social media accounts. Assist, build, and maintain Microsoft SharePoint program website. Create mailing labels and prepare envelopes for mailing. Deliver and pick up documents to other offices around campus. Make telephone calls to program participants. Make initial and follow up telephone calls to contact potential program participants. Track and follow up with identified potential program participants and schedule appointments to referred TRIO Program. Occasionally, help chaperone program participants on Saturday field trips. Assist with recruitment activities and program target schools (Junior High, and High Schools). Enrollment Requirements

Fall/Spring Semesters : All student employees must be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible to work any UCO student position. Half-time enrollment for fall/spring semesters is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. International students must be enrolled full-time to be eligible to work as a student employee. Full-time enrollment is 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 credit hours for undergraduates.

Summer Semester : Student employees working regular student positions must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours to be eligible to work during the summer. Students not enrolled in summer classes must be enrolled in fall classes in order to work during the summer, but they (and the department) will be required to pay FICA taxes. Student employees working FWSP positions must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours (if undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (if graduate) in order to work during the summer in a Federal Work Study Program position.

Enrollment Exception : If the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum number of hours required for student employment, the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of hours needed to graduate and anticipated graduation date) and submit it to Human Resources.
