Senior Product Manager

Instrumental, Palo Alto, CA, United States

Instrumental technology is used by the world’s most admired electronics brands like Bose, Cisco, and SolarEdge to significantly reduce the 20 cents of waste in every dollar spent on manufacturing. Our technology leverages AI from data coming off of the manufacturing floor to automate failure identification and resolution – improving yield, quality, and time to market.

About the Role:

At Instrumental, you’ll play a central role in revolutionizing the manufacturing industry by building software that empowers hardware engineers to identify & resolve manufacturing issues with precision & speed. As a Senior Product Manager, you will be at the helm of steering cross-functional teams to envision, define, and deliver impactful products that drive real-world change. This role combines tactical execution with high-level strategic thinking and will evolve as our product and company grow.

The ideal candidate is an intellectually curious and fiercely driven problem solver who thrives on creating clarity in ambiguity. You bring a strong bias for action, aren't afraid to challenge assumptions, and excel in high-stakes environments. You enjoy sparring over ideas and engaging in respectful, evidence-based debates with colleagues, including senior leaders, to arrive at the best possible outcomes. Above all, you are relentless in your pursuit of excellence and outcomes that make a tangible impact.

Bonus points: A deep understanding of the hardware design or manufacturing landscape! If you’re a hardware engineer-turned-product manager, have hands-on experience with manufacturing software, or have worked closely with this industry, we want to hear your story.

We're Looking for Someone Who:

  • Has 3-5+ years experience in product management, working on enterprise SaaS products, OR deep domain expertise in electronics manufacturing - you know our users inside & out.
  • Is customer obsessed. You prioritize deeply understanding user context, needs, and problems. You’re focused on delivering solutions that drive real value for users.
  • Has an entrepreneurial spirit. You're self-driven and don’t require direction, with a proven track record of moving the needle. You embody a do-what-it-takes attitude.
  • Has excellent communication and presentation skills. You are prepared to influence C-suite level stakeholders. You excel at explaining complex technical topics to non-technical audiences.
  • Is familiar with agile software development methods, managing a backlog, and is comfortable working with engineering teams on difficult feature trade-off discussions.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Conduct customer and market research to discover, define, and validate opportunities.
  • Drive product planning, prioritization, and enhancements, balancing responsiveness to customer needs with strategic market impact. Build an efficient and ROI driven roadmap.
  • Collaborate with UX design to develop user-friendly interfaces that enables users to effectively leverage our AI tools to find, solve, and monitor manufacturing issues.
  • Work closely with engineering and quality teams to build, test, and release new features.
  • Own product definition, including the writing of product requirements, feature acceptance criteria, and sign-off development completion.
  • Work with product marketing to develop content, messaging, and competitive positioning based on solid value propositions, driving sales enablement and existing customer growth.
  • Partner with customers and prospects to present product features and roadmap.
  • Work with internal teams to ensure they stay trained and customers fully supported.

We'd Love to Chat if You Have:

  • Voracious curiosity - you want to know how things are made, why they’re made that way, and how they could be made better.
  • An enthusiasm for constructive problem-solving – you thrive in conversations that challenge assumptions, uncover opportunities, and lead to better decisions for the team and customers.
  • Strong opinions, loosely held – you bring thoughtful, well-reasoned ideas to discussions and are equally excited to refine them based on new insights or evidence.
  • A passion for meaningful work – you’re motivated by the opportunity to make a tangible impact, whether for the team, customers, or the broader industry.

We’re a growing team that works collaboratively, supports each other, and is energized by having impact. We value passion and the ability to learn – you’re encouraged to apply even if your experience doesn’t match the job description precisely!
