The ML2 Project is the design and construction of a launch platform for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The purpose of ML2, located at Kennedy Space Center (KSC), is to provide a launch platform for the Space Launch System (SLS), an advanced launch vehicle that will fill America’s need for deep space missions. ML2 includes many different subsystems that must operate and fit within the constraints of the structure and provide physical interface with KSC launch sites’ ground systems. This is a short-term assignment and the expected duration is 5 months Job Summary: This role will support design development of structural steel engineering designs for the project by preparing studies, drawings, and evaluations, in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. Work with other designers/engineers and technical disciplines in a team environment. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs.LI-SF1 Major Responsibilities: Originate and check structural steel deliverables of moderate complexity, including drawings and 3-D models structural design. Review Structural steel deliverables of moderate complexity, including drawings and 3-D models for steel. Interpret and verify industry standards, guidelines, and codes for project deliverables Report design quantities compared to estimated quantities. Participate in project design/model reviews. Participate in constructability reviews. Review and coordinate technical documents with/from other engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction. Education and Experience Requirements: Requires bachelor's degree and 8-10 years of relevant experience or AA/AS degree with 10-12 years of related experience. In lieu of a degree, 14-16 years of relevant work experience US citizen. Must be able to complete and pre-employment drug screen and background check. Required Knowledge and Skills: Advance experience in the use of Autocad and Tekla and or similar software. Work experience should emphasize structural steel design of heavy industrial type facilities. Must be familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel. Familiar with the provisions of ASTM, AISC, OSHA, and IBC codes. Knowledge of construction materials and construction details and techniques. Familiar with the methods of procurement and control of bulk materials. Knowledge of technical responsibilities of other disciplines associated with Facilities Design. Ability to independently execute the detailed design drawings of structural systems of moderate complexity. Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings and specifications. Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally. Ability to resolve design issues with subordinates, other engineering disciplines, construction, and the client. Ability to issue clear and concise direction to subordinate designers and drafters. Experience in the structural steel design for Nuclear Quality and Safety Environment. AA in civil engineering or engineering technology.
