The ML2 Project is the design and construction of a launch platform for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The purpose of ML2, located at Kennedy Space Center (KSC), is to provide a launch platform for the Space Launch System (SLS), an advanced launch vehicle that will fill America’s need for deep space missions. ML2 includes many different subsystems that must operate and fit within the constraints of the structure and provide physical interface with KSC launch sites’ ground systems. Job Summary: This role will support design development Structural engineering designs for the project by modifying and updating GSTRUDL structural steel models & calculations and providing responses to request for information from the Steel fabricator and construction. #LI-SF1 Major Responsibilities: Originate and check complex structural engineering deliverables, such as steel calculations and specifications. Originate, check, and modify complex structural analysis models using GT STRUDL. Reviews and coordinates technical documents with/from other engineering disciplines. Prepare technical reports related to specific design issues. Provides technical direction to designers and less experienced engineers as directed. Assists in constructability reviews. Education and Experience Requirements: BS Degree in Engineering (Civil/Structural or related), from an accredited university, with at least 8-10 years of relevant experience. US citizen. Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check. Required Knowledge and Skills: Have a U.S. Professional Engineering (PE) license. Proficient in the use of structural analysis software GTSTRUDL or Staad.pro Familiar with the use of Mathcad or similar software. Ability to independently perform structural steel building/tower analysis. Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally. Excellent listening, oral, and written communication, planning and organizational skills are essential. Experience with CADD applications, such as MicroStation, Tekla, and NavisWorks. Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel. Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check. Preferred: Proficient in the use of Mathcad or similar software. Thorough knowledge of the provisions of AISC Steel Manual & ASCE 7. Familiar with Bechtel standard programs. Familiar with all Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs) and their application to projects. Knowledge of design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPS). Necessary skills to present technical subjects with competence and confidence. Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings, specifications, and material requisitions and of construction methods for concrete and steel structures. Understands work processes of other disciplines and departments on projects.
