Director of Strategic Data Analytics Position #:00770200 – Requisition #:35711 Job Summary: The Director is responsible for providing strategic operational, financial and administrative oversight of the Data Analytics team, analytics consulting, leadership and support to the campus senior leadership team, central Budget, Planning and Campus Strategy (BPCS) leadership, and to school/college leaders. The position will focus on integrating data from a variety of systems (CU Central Information Warehouse (CIW), PeopleSoft Financials, PeopleSoft HCM, Salesforce, Slate, Collegis, etc.) to create insights at campus and school levels. These insights will inform short and long-term strategic planning, policy decisions, operational improvements, and campus strategic initiatives. To be successful in this role, the incumbent hired for this position will be able to rapidly develop a deep understanding of the structures and data available in various repositories located within the campus and at the CU System Office, as well as to discern (by building relationships) what data is available in other school/college systems to help inform the development of the campus data strategy. Key Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership and Planning – 50% Strategic leadership of the Data Analytics team, including developing processes for the Data Analytics Collaborative, including processes related to the publishing of data to dashboards, and processes to ensure data used in public facing dashboards has gone through the pertinent governance processes. Development of strategies on how best to utilize current systems when embarking on change management efforts (i.e., automating PMR reporting process). Responsible for management of the Data Analytics team budget, including tracking of annual spending, formulating projections for annual budget requests, ensuring all expenses are captured for fiscal end close. Responsible for leading and managing two direct Data Analysts, including performance management, termination, recruitment/hiring and utilizing analytics to determine appropriate staffing needs to achieve the goal of the Data Analytics initiatives for the campus. Supports a wide range of Budget, Planning and Campus Strategy initiatives and reporting and analysis projects. Data Analytics/Business Intelligence – 50% Create dashboards in Tableau or Power BI to be used by campus leadership, the central BPCS department, schools, and departments. Data created is used for strategic planning and discussions with campus leaders. Utilize SQL to integrate multiple and complex data sources to create Tableau and/or Power BI analytic work products. Aggregates data from a variety of systems and files where standardized policies or procedures may or may not exist. Uses Tableau and other tools to perform complex analyses pertaining to the state of the campus. Uses analytic tools and institutional applications to build predictive models; uses data to drive insights into resource planning, campus strategic initiatives and data-informed decision making. Presents data that include quantitative and qualitative information about the organization and assists BPCS leadership in interpreting and using the data to influence changes to operations, processes or programs. Creates dashboards, regular and ad hoc reports, and presentations that provide meaningful analysis of, and insights into, key workforce issues. Prepares spreadsheets, reports, summaries, charts, slides and other visual aids to describe findings, propose solutions and predict trends. Provides support as continual enhancements and changes are made to existing campus processes. Assists with troubleshooting, analyzing, resolving, monitoring and documenting complex user inquiries, as needed. Partners with others on campuses involved in data analytics to share knowledge and best practices. Participates in new and established cross-functional data initiatives to support process improvements, programs, policy reviews, and contributions to data governance. Work Location:

Hybrid – this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Math, Statistics, Economics, Information Technology, or a closely related field.

Substitution : 4 years of professional or high-level technical experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree. At least eight (8) years of relevant experience designing and developing reports and dashboards in a complex environment with multiple business systems, stakeholders, initiatives, and varying quality of data. Experience with systems and processes, best practices and operational metrics/analytics related to business and academic operations. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in a relevant subject area, such as Information Technology, Data Science, Data Analytics, Finance, Business Administration, Mathematics or Statistics. Relevant experience in Information Systems administration or management. Relevant experience with PeopleSoft (or similarly complex ERP system). Relevant experience utilizing Tableau or other analytic and data visualization tools. Advanced experience using Microsoft Excel, Access, and PowerPoint and SharePoint. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Advanced analytical and research skills, as demonstrated by the ability to develop, assess and blend information from a wide variety of data sources, and to apply analytical and critical/strategic thinking. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in a collaborative environment, build consensus and promote the exchange of information among colleagues.
