EMT/AEMT/Paramedic
PRN positions
$20.39/hr.-$29.67/hr.
(Pay based on previous EMS experience and provider level)
The Hopkinsville Fire/EMS Department is currently accepting applications for the positions of EMT/AEMT/Paramedic PRN positions.
These positions have the primary responsibility of delivering high quality ALS/BLS patient care to patients treated and transported by Hopkinsville Fire Department's EMS Division. All positions require a high school diploma or GED, CPR certification, a valid driver's license, and be licensed/certified by Kentucky Board of EMS OR currently registered with National Registry of EMTs. Individuals must be able to move/lift over 100 lbs. on a regular basis.
Description of Duties
Maintain certifications as required by Kentucky regulations, City of Hopkinsville, and City of Hopkinsville Fire Department.
Thorough knowledge of City and Christian County geography and knowledge of ordinances or laws concerning use of public roads by emergency vehicles.
Communicate clearly and comprehend communication from others, in person or by two-way radio.
Efficiently and safely operate emergency vehicles in heavy traffic, inclement weather conditions, and various road surfaces.
Physical strength and agility to lift and carry patients and all emergency medical equipment including operation and relocation of equipment.
Ability and manual dexterity to use all medical equipment.
Tolerate high personal risk and life threatening situations, and still carry out assigned duties in a professional manner while maintaining sound judgement and decisiveness.
Maintain ambulance in efficient operating condition and ensure that they are kept in clean, neat, and orderly condition, including department structures, furnishings, and outside areas.
Maintain confidentiality, including information identified under HIPAA regulations.
Conduct inventory of all equipment and replace supplies as necessary.
Respond to emergency calls to provide pre-hospital emergency medical care to patients and transport patients to medical facilities.
Under direction of a Medical Director administer first aid, medication, and intravenous fluids, and perform advanced life support.
Maintain the advanced skill and knowledge to operate a cardiac monitor and defibrillator while having the knowledge to identify EKG rhythms in order to properly treat patients.
Perform medical techniques such as intubations, IV therapy, needle decompression of a tension pneumothorax, and knowledge of medications to include indication and contraindication of side effects and the ability to calculate the proper dosage.
Transport patients to and from ambulances to receive appropriate medical care. Successfully complete all state and/or national mandated certifications.
Maintain certification in CPR, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, HIV/AIDS awareness, Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma, and other classes to maintain Paramedic licensure.
Perform other related duties as required or assigned. Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited high school or equivalent.
Possess, present, and maintain evidence of certification as a Paramedic by the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Certification in CPR, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, HIV/AIDS awareness, Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma, and other classes to maintain Paramedic licensure.
Possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
Operate all assigned medical equipment.
Meet all statutorily mandated standards.
Supplemental Information
Knowledge of computers and prescribed software.
Establish good working relationships with other employees, managers, patients, and maintain a high level of credibility with the general public.
The employee's duties require frequent exposure to a high degree of danger or peril and a high degree of physical conditioning.
