Camera System Engineer

Figure is an AI Robotics company developing a general purpose humanoid. Our humanoid robot, Figure 02, is designed for commercial tasks and the home. We are based in Sunnyvale, CA and require 5 days/week in-office collaboration. It’s time to build.We are looking for a Camera System Engineer to design Figure next generation sensors and image processing pipeline.Responsibilities: Define the Camera System architecture, requirements, verification and validation plansSelect or design optics, protective glass and coating, and closely collaborate with the mechanical team to define camera locationsLead components selection for the camera system including image sensors, ISP and vision processorsConduct trades studies to support requirements definitions and drive components selectionPerform data collections with various sensor configurations, sensors and opticsCreate models of cameras and image processing pipelinesDefine performance metrics and perform quantitative analysis of the camera system performanceConduct latency estimations and measurements and propose optimizations to reduce latencyOversee relationships with camera and SoC vendorsContribute to the processing module hardware design or the development of algorithms for the signal processing pipelineRequirements: Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related disciplineAt least 5 years of experience designing and characterizing complex camera systemsDeep understanding of image and Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensors characteristicsFundamental understanding of camera opticsSolid knowledge of image signal processing algorithmsExperience modeling vision processing pipelines using Matlab or PythonStrong verbal and written communication skillsBonus Qualifications: Proficiency in C++ or CSolid EE fundamentals with hands-on experience designing, building, and testing PCBAsExperience using 3D CAD software to design partsThe US base salary range for this full-time position is between $150,000 - $210,000 annually.The pay offered for this position may vary based on several individual factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package may also include additional components/benefits depending on the specific role. This information will be shared if an employment offer is extended.
