Amazon Publishing is seeking an innovative, passionate, market-savvy Acquisitions Editor with a primary focus on acquiring book club fiction. You will be responsible for discovering and acquiring exceptional content, managing author and agent relationships, and collaborating with marketing, publicity, production, and author relations teams to deliver quality books and world-class author experiences. This is a multi-faceted job in a fast-paced environment that requires facility with data, flexibility, creativity, and a sense of humor.

Key Job Responsibilities

  1. Identify, evaluate, and develop submissions, projects, and proposals to acquire, including:
  2. Monitoring trend and sales data
  3. Strong analytical thinking paired with excellent editorial sensibility
  4. Strong track record of discovering, developing, and publishing bestselling titles and authors
  5. Working closely with authors to develop their work and careers
  6. Working closely with internal teams to shepherd work from manuscript through publication and beyond
  7. Developing and maintaining strong relationships with literary agents

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong track record of discovering, developing, and publishing bestselling titles and authors
  • Strong negotiation skills along with knowledge of standard publishing contracts and P&Ls
  • Strong project management experience and ability to hit deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking paired with excellent editorial sensibility
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team setting
  • Fluent in all office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, Salesforce

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Broad list of agent contacts
  • 5+ years of content acquisition and/or content development experience preferred
  • Familiarity with ETL, SQL, handling/analyzing data a plus
