This is a Full time, Non-Bargaining, Non-Exempt position based on a 40-hour work week with an hourly pay range of $43.85 - $48.09. This position will work at Water Treatment Plant at 301 College Street, Lake Worth, FL 33460.

JOB SUMMARY:

This is a skilled mechanical/electrical work in the maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery at the water treatment plant, wellfields, and lift stations. The water plant consists of a 12.9MGD Lime Softening Plant with 12 wells, 4.5 MGD Reverse Osmosis Plant with 3 Floridan well, one 4.05 MGD Deep Injection Well and 2 Booster Pumping Station.

Makes inspections of water plant, pumping stations and lift stations to determine operating conditions and needed repairs. Determines materials and equipment for repair and maintenance work. Tests equipment for possible electrical trouble. Repairs electrical starting equipment and screens. Packs and repairs pumps. Repairs and maintains electrical motors. Inspects and replaces bearings and maintains proper oil levels.

General and specific assignments are received through the plant manager directives and conferences with considerable latitude for the use of independent judgement in the selection of work methods and procedures. Reports directly to the Plant Manager and/or his designee.

  • Performs all the duties required of a Water/Sewer Electrician.
  • Works in close cooperation and coordinates with the Chief Operator and Chief Mechanic to assure the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the Plant.
  • Coordinates with outside contractors. Obtain price quotes.
  • Installs, repairs and modifies electrical equipment systems.
  • Troubleshoots, repairs and maintains high voltage electrical motors, motor controls and switchgear.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on all electrical equipment, water plants, elevated storage reservoirs, wells, and sewage lift stations.
  • Operates and troubleshoots electrical generators and transformers.
  • Makes repairs and change to switchgear, transfer switches and generators.
  • Monitors and maintains cathodic protection systems.
  • Assists in RTU cable and antennas repair and replacement.
  • Evaluates new construction installations (i.e., punch-lists and reviews drawings and prints).
  • Maintains 3-phase control panels consisting of contactors, motor control protectors, delay timers, flow meters and hydraulic pressure control valves.
  • Operates a variety of tools and Utilizes a variety of cleaning solutions, degreasers, and solvents.
  • Maintains equipment records.
  • Design, install, maintain, repair, calibrate, and troubleshoot telemetry, communication systems, and control systems, including PLC's, relay logic, SCADA systems, and HMI.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.
  • Makes inspections of water plant, water wells and lift stations to determine operating conditions and needed repairs.
  • Determines materials and equipment for repair and maintenance work.
  • Tests equipment for possible electrical trouble.
  • Repairs electrical starting equipment and controls.
  • Repairs and maintains electrical motors.
  • Inspects and replaces bearings and maintains proper oil levels.
  • Prepares requisition for supplies and repair parts.
  • Maintains preventive maintenance program.
  • Performs other related work as required.

Supervision: Oversees the Water/Sewer Electrician

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Graduation from a recognized high school or possession of a recognized equivalent certification.
  • Must have or be qualified for a journeyman license.
  • Five (5) years' experience in the installation, calibration, repair and maintenance of Water/Sewer equipment.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • A valid Florida driver's license.
Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend related technical information and documents. Respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Effectively present information to management and/or the general public.

Mathematical Skills:

To calculate figures and amount such as percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Computer Skills:

Microsoft Office (email, Excel and Word programs).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of VFD, Soft Starter, Motor Control Center, Generator, PLC, and Lighting systems.
• Knowledge of electrical theory, National Electrical Codes, State and local electrical codes and ordinances.
• Knowledge of the safety hazards of the work and necessary safety precautions.
• Knowledge of standard practices, tools and terminology of the electrical trade.
• Skill in all electrical maintenance and repair equipment.
• Ability to troubleshoot energized electrical equipment, make repairs to complicated electrical wiring fixtures, and equipment.
• Ability to perform manual work over extended periods of time, to lift articles weighing up to 50 pounds, climb ladders in lift stations
  • Troubleshoot, isolate, and make repairs to electrical, electronic, mechanical, and electromechanical equipment, and instrumentation
  • Considerable knowledge of methods and techniques used in the installation, repair and maintenance of a wide variety of utilities electrical motors, controls, switchgear, etc.
  • Considerable knowledge of methods and techniques used in the repair and maintenance of electrical equipment as found in the water plant and lift stations.
  • Ability to make inspections to determine operating, conditions and needed repairs of plant machinery and pumping equipment.
  • Ability to work from blueprints, pencil sketches, or written and oral instructions.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This can be heavy work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, and feeling; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus.

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

The worker is subject to outside environmental conditions: no effective protection from the weather. Employees in this position will be required to complete the FEMA Incident Command System (ICS) Certification Levels 100,200,700 and 800 within the first six months of employment. Certain positions may be required to attain additional ICS training as needed.
