POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Operations is responsible for setting the strategic and tactical direction for manufacturing initiatives to achieve the objective of a high quality, speed-to-market producer, within a dynamic environment that has both low-mix medium-volume, and high-mix low-volume production. The successful candidate will ensure that the team has the resources, training, systems, and processes to achieve our organizational goals for sales, on time delivery, cost reduction, employee engagement, and safety through continuous improvements. This role will be an integral member of the Leadership team, will have interaction with key customers, and be responsible for Production, Quality, CI, EHS, and Facilities at the Rutherford, NJ site. The qualified candidate must be passionate about developing talent and bench strength, leading a team, and driving continuous improvement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for executing the sales output plan and achieving targets related to Backlog, Past Dues, and OTD. Responsible for all aspects of production including direct labor staffing, operational targets, value stream layout, and capital expenditure requests. Hires and develops talent; leads and drives performance assessment process. Takes actions to allocate resources, train employees, and close internal skill gaps. Cultivates employee involvement by positively empowering employees to be active participants in lean, quality, and safety initiatives. Drives the adoption of 80/20 and continuous improvement to increase capacity and reduce operating costs. Owns Daily Management process; drives Tiered Accountability through multiple levels of daily management across all production areas and provides valuable input and escalations. Ensures products are manufactured within standard lead times and at standard costs; in the event of variances, determines root cause and implements effective corrective actions. Collaborates with Supply Chain to proactively manage inventory to increase turns. Acts as a change agent for leading continuous improvement initiatives; including development and delivery of training materials and programs. Facilitates and leads teams in rood cause corrective measure (RCCM) and rapid improvement events (RIE) Facilitates regular improvement planning sessions to identify opportunities to achieve key strategic manufacturing and safety goals. Develops related action plans with measurable outcomes. Implements and drives the effective application of best practices as Standard Work, Standard Operating Conditions, Standard Operating Procedures, and other CI procedures/processes. Analyzes data and takes action to reduce order lead time, improve production planning, and increase operational capacity. Manages New Product Introduction process as it relates to production validation activities. Manages company assets through preventative maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities to minimize unplanned downtime, improve production quality, increase equipment efficiency and maintain a clean and a safe work environment. Keeps up with industry best practices for manufacturing, automation, and factory productivity MANAGEMENT:
6 - 8 Direct Reports across Production Supervision, Quality, EHS, and Manufacturing Engineering 90+ Indirect reports (operations team) EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree 10+ yrs of relevant experience in an industrial manufacturing environment; preferably high-volume manufacturing or rotating equipment Proven experience as Senior Operations Leader or a similar relevant role Demonstrated experience in factory transformation / optimization (value streams, work flow) Strong understanding and demonstrated experience in the areas of Continuous Improvement, Operational Excellence, Lean principals, 8020, and data driven decision making Experience with ERP systems (Oracle - JD Edwards preferred) and MS Office Experience working with site certifications such as ISO9001 and ISO14001 Advanced organizational leadership skills and change management capabilities Previous responsibility for safety, quality, production, people management and maintenance of a production unit QUALIFICATIONS:
