Higher Heights Leadership Fund, a 501(c)(3) organization, and its sister organization, Higher Heights for America (Higher Heights) are the leading national organizations providing Black women with a political home exclusively dedicated to harnessing their power to expand Black women’s elected representation and voting participation and advance progressive policies.

Higher Heights was founded by Black women for Black women’s political growth and equity, with a winning plan for building collective political power and expanding Black women’s elected leadership. Higher Heights’ mission includes:

  • Investing in the next generation of political leaders.
  • Organizing and mobilizing the power of Black women voters through its #BlackWomenVote campaign.
  • Creating an environment for Black women to vote, run, win, and lead, through online training, research, cultural-shifting communications work, and digital campaigns.
  • Higher Heights is comprised of two sister organizations working to create transformational change.

THE ROLE:

Higher Heights seeks a highly experienced Director of Digital Engagement who will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive digital strategy to increase engagement, drive brand awareness, and foster community growth across all digital platforms. This role requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of digital marketing, social media, content creation, and analytics. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in driving digital engagement and a passion for storytelling and innovation.

The position reports to the Executive Vice President of Communication and External Affairs and will interface regularly with the President/ CEO and the executive leadership team, as well as work often with colleagues across the institution who work on a variety of issues and in different functional areas. This position requires a candidate to be highly collaborative, to function with a high level of autonomy, to help lead and manage multiple projects and work on time-sensitive deadlines.

This remote and full-time position requires some travel as needed to work in one of Higher Heights' offices in the New York City or Washington, D.C. (DMV) metropolitan areas and other locations as needed.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Email Program Management: Plan, execute, and manage our email program, including creating and populating an editorial calendar to ensure daily branded content.
  • Social Media Strategy: Develop and implement social media priorities for 13 social media platforms, creating compelling, action-oriented content for platforms like Facebook, X, IG, TikTok, BlueSky Threads, YouTube, LinkedIn, and other platforms.
  • Engagement and Growth: Run campaigns to grow social media audiences and convert them into members and donors.
  • Content Creation: Draft creative emails and social media posts, adapting writing style across platforms. Produce content to highlight endorsed candidates, research, and programs.
  • Reporting and Analytics: Establish regular reporting to keep leadership informed of key metrics and performance. Conduct and analyze testing to identify effective strategies.
  • Livestreaming and Events: Oversee live streaming events and develop content for membership engagement and training portals.
  • Team Management: Support and manage a team of 1-3 people.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on cutting-edge technology and innovation, ensuring online properties are current and relevant.
  • Other responsibilities and tasks as needed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • We’re looking for candidates who are passionate about email writing and digital media and who want to help harness Black women’s collective political power to elect Black women, influence elections, and advance progressive policies.
  • Creativity and outstanding writing skills are required for this role.
  • The Ideal candidates will have a minimum of 8-10 years of experience contributing to or managing a fundraising-based email program, preferably in a campaign, political, non-profit organization.
  • Expert knowledge of online fundraising and email best practices.
  • Candidates should be able to handle multiple projects at once, work well under deadlines, and understand that digital isn’t a 9 to 6 kind of job. Evening and weekend work will be expected on an as-needed basis, especially during key times for the organization. Hours will be 40 hours a week.
  • Knowledge of 501(c)3 and 501(c)4 organizations and experience building power with both types of organizations.
  • Commitment to gender and racial justice and social justice values.
  • Extensive familiarity with women’s and social justice organizations and actors is a plus.
  • Must be a self-starter with strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • A strong commitment to rigor and metrics-driven work, including using experimentation to measure impact.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects, develop work plans, and meet target goals and objectives.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Some travel is required.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

The salary range for this nonexempt role is $90,000- $110,000, and it offers a competitive benefits package. The final base salary will be determined by various factors, including individual qualifications and internal parity, which will be objectively assessed during the interview process.
