A Day in the Life of a Phlebotomy Manager:
The Phlebotomy Manager is a member of the Laboratory Leadership team, providing leadership and supervision to phlebotomy. This position is responsible for compliance with regulatory requirements, quality control, and patient satisfaction.Participates in employee selection, orientation/training, competency, and performance evaluations.The Phlebotomy Manager works closely with the Laboratory Director, Laboratory Medical Director, and Laboratory Leadership team.

- Accepts responsibility for employee selection, orientation, training, competency, and performance evaluation.
- Creates Phlebotomy schedule and ensures department is staffed appropriately.
- Completes employee payroll and PTO tasks.
- Performs employee counseling and disciplinary actions as needed.Ensures occurrence reporting system follow-up and documentation.
- Writes new policies and procedures as needed; reviews and revises existing policies and procedures on annual basis; keeps staff informed of test, methodology or policy/procedure changes.
- Ensures Phlebotomy Department compliance with CAP/TJC/CLIA/OSHA/AABB and other relevant agency rules and regulations.
- Coordinates with Laboratory Information Services (LIS) team to update/troubleshoot Epic system, handheld devices, and downtime
- Accepts responsibility for investigation, follow up, and service recovery for dissatisfied or concerned patients, families, physicians, and clients.
- Participates in committees, meetings, and process improvement teams as needed.
- Provides operational leadership and has budget responsibilities.
- Performs duties of phlebotomy staff as needed for coverage.
- Works with the other Lab leaders to positively influence the Lab culture.

- Knowledge of laboratory services, rules, and regulations
- Knowledge of laboratory and healthcare best practices
- Knowledge of common laboratory supplies
- Strong leadership and team building skills
- High school diploma (or Equivalent Certificate from an accredited program) or higher degree
- Phlebotomy certification from an accredited agency
- Five (5) or more years of phlebotomy experience
- Three (3) or more years of leadership experience
- Bachelor's degree in a laboratory science field
- PeopleSoft or other ordering/invoicing system experience
- Epic Beaker experience
