Stony Brook Medicine Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants are valuable members of the Cardiology Division providing essential clinical services to our patient population. We are seeking candidates to provide coverage of our clinical service in the outpatient setting. Qualified candidates will demonstrate superior patient care and possess outstanding communication skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
This position will be responsible for providing patient care at the ACP and SBUH. Under the direction and supervision of a licensed physician, this health care professional will provide health care to patients. Duties include the following:

Stress testing responsibilities and duties:
  • Perform focused history and exam
  • Ensure appropriateness of the exam
  • Obtain informed consent
  • Perform treadmill, pharmacological and routine stress test in outpatient and inpatient setting
  • Monitor patients during stress test and recovery phase
  • Analyze and interpret ECG, and dictate preliminary report
  • Collaborate with the referring physician and covering physician for any issues

Echocardiogram duties:
  • Place an order for echo enhancement agent and/or bubble study in EMR as requested by echo tech in the outpatient setting
  • Evaluate and address patient with incidental symptoms during or after echocardiogram

Coumadin Clinic duties:
  • Perform point of care INR
  • Call patient with result and prescribe further warfarin dosage
  • Document in the anticoagulation flowsheet in the EMR
  • Order labs and prescription for warfarin/Jantoven
  • Perform H&P/education on new enrollments to AC clinic
  • Do monthly QC
  • Must be proficient in coagucheck maintenance and management

PST Duties:
  • Review referring cardiologist H&P
  • Complete pre-Cath note
  • Review meds and lab results
  • Call patents with pre-procedure instructions
  • Confer with cardiologist if any issues arise
  • Perform clinical evaluations of patients which may involve histories, physical examinations, and laboratory testing
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
  • Counsel and advise patients and their families


Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Nurse Practitioner: Current NYS RN license. Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in nursing from an accredited school. NYS license as an adult / family Nurse Practitioner. AANP/ANCC certification.

Physician Assistant: Current NYS Physician Assistant license. Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in physician assistant studies from an accredited school. NCCPA Certification.

Must possess excellent oral, verbal, and written communication skills; customer service/interpersonal skills, problem solving, organizational skills, time management skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
At least one year of clinical experience working as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner: Previous experience working in cardiology.
