LS Technologies, a Tetra Tech company, is seeking a
Cloud Systems Engineer/Developer
with expertise in Cloud Computing to join our team supporting the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in designing, implementing, and managing cloud-based infrastructure, with a focus on supporting the FAA's mission-critical systems and applications. The Systems Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the stability, scalability, and security of systems deployed on AWS, while adhering to FAA regulations and best practices. Responsibilities Applies comprehensive system engineering principles to support the investigation, analysis, planning, design, development, implementation, testing, and evaluation of NAS equipment and procedures, particularly the integration of and safety assessment of the ATC system. Reviews and prepares engineering and technical analysis reports, and other technical and safety documentation. Automate the provisioning, configuration, and deployment of cloud infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, AWS CloudFormation). Manage and optimize cloud costs by monitoring usage, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and implementing budget controls and cost allocation strategies. Use AWS cost management tools (e.g., AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Budgets) to provide cost reports, forecast future usage, and recommend optimizations to reduce overall cloud expenditure. Collaborate with stakeholders to establish cost-efficient cloud strategies, balancing performance, scalability, and budget constraints. Drafts system/safety project plans, justifications, guidelines, and controls. Recommends development and design changes to improve quality of products and/or procedures. Apply senior-level engineering knowledge to analyze and solve engineering, scientific, or management problems. Execute test and evaluation plans, procedures, and reports, recommending optimal designs and alternative approaches. Provides expertise in the transition of legacy systems to modernized systems. Systems engineers with appropriate expertise will support all aspects of FAA safety management activities involving measures to mitigate hazards or reduce risks to an acceptable level, verification that mitigation measures are incorporated into product design and implementation, and assessment of residual risk and any other safety related activities. Preparation and editing of technical reports, papers, and presentations. Design, implement, and manage scalable and secure AWS cloud environments that support FAA's mission-critical systems and applications. Develop cloud infrastructure solutions using AWS services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, VPC, IAM, CloudFormation, and CloudWatch. Ensure the security, compliance, and integrity of AWS environments in accordance with FAA regulations, Federal security frameworks (NIST, FISMA), and best practices. Education Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Math, Computer Science, or related engineering fields from an accredited college or university. Qualifications Minimum 11 years' experience in an engineering role. Experience/familiarity with Airspace System (NAS), Enterprise Architecture, and FAA's Acquisition Management System (AMS). Microsoft Office, including detailed technical document development within Word, block diagram development within Visio, and the creation of effective PowerPoint Presentations. Proven effective interactions and communication with executives, managers, employees, customers, and stakeholders. Strong interpersonal skills, as they relate to working with peers and developing a working relationship with customers. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Technical Skills: AWS Cloud Services - Expertise in AWS infrastructure, security, and automation services. Scripting & Automation - Proficiency in scripting (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell) for automation tasks. Virtualization & Containerization - Knowledge of container platforms like Docker and Kubernetes. Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery & DevOps - Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tools such as Jenkins, Git, or AWS CodePipeline. Zero Trust and Cybersecurity - Knowledge of Zscaler platform. Nice to Have Experience with FAA programs or systems such as SWIM, ERAM, TBFM, TFMS, STARS/TAMR, ATOP, TFDM, E-IDS, ATC, etc. Experience with Future ATM concepts such as Aircraft Access to SWIM, UAS Traffic Management, Trajectory Based Operations, etc. Work Requirements: Work location: Washington, DC Work Hours: Normal working hours Travel: 0% Physical requirements:
