TITLE: AQUATIC CAMP ASSISTANT DIRECTOR (Summer 2025)
PAY RATE:
$24.00/hour DEPARTMENT:
Parks and Recreation PREREQUISITES FOR EMPLOYMENT: Current Certifications in Lifeguard Training, CPR, AED and First-Aid Available in 2024 mid-May through Labor Day Preferred 18+ years of age Preferred at least one year as a lifeguard or sailing instructor with the City of Evanston Pre-employment Drug/Alcohol Test Criminal and DCFS Background Check HOURS:
Varies, weekdays and weekends up to 40 hrs/week. General Task Statement:
Responsible for the supervision and safety of all camp staff and campers in the City of Evanston Aquatics Camp. Supervision:
Under the direct supervision of the Recreation Program Coordinator and Recreation Manager. Essential Function(s) – Task Statements:
Know and enforce all rules and regulations pertaining to the Evanston Lakefront and Parks and Recreation camps. Use proper surveillance techniques to guard the swimming area. Identify patrons in need of emergency assistance and respond appropriately. Maintain a safe environment and supervise all campers. Know and adhere to all boating regulations and safety measures. Conduct camp and develop all designated lesson plans. Conduct staff training sessions. Responsible for effective and appropriate communication to patrons and camp parents. Attend staff meetings as scheduled by program coordinator. Maintain a clean and safe beach and office environment. Responsible for care and maintenance of equipment and storage areas. Complete written reports such as accident, incident and the like on a timely basis. Communicate to supervisor(s) if there are problems or issues needing special attention. Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by program coordinator or program manager. Knowledge in basic sailing, kayaking, paddleboarding, and boat driving. Operate boats for tubing, water skiing, rescues, etc. Manage enrollment of campers. Oversee safety of campers and camp counselors. Ability to work all nine (9) weeks of camp from June 10-August 9 and assist at lakefront until Labor Day. Assume responsibilities of Aquatic Camp Manager in his/her absence. Specifications:
Minimum Reasoning ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form; to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations. Minimum Language ability: Read:
Ability to read staff manuals, memoranda, and attendance sheets. Write:
Ability to complete daily log sheets, accident reports, incident reports, jump reports, first-aid reports using prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, and style. Speak:
Ability to give verbal direction to subordinates, communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, citizens, and the public as well as other employers; speaking extemporaneously on a variety of subjects. Amount of training:
Completed at least 1 year of high school and complete all preseason training. Degree of Physical Demands:
Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly in order to move objects. Type of physical demands:
Reaching, Handling, Talking, Hearing, Feeling, Tasting/Smelling, Climbing, Balancing, Stooping, Kneeling, Crouching, Crawling, Seeing. Working conditions:
Ability to lift, kneel, bend, stand for long periods of time, identify or distinguish colors, and work outdoors at night with limited lighting. Environmental conditions:
Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions such as rain, high temperatures, and humidity. Environmental hazards:
The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions approximately 5% of the time and outside work 95% of the time with no effective protection from weather conditions or temperature changes. Application Procedure:
