Job Scope
The
Director, Manufacturing Engineering
leads teams across multiple production facilities, overseeing the entire product lifecycle from new product introduction (NPI) to obsolescence. This role ensures alignment with strategic goals, manages cross-functional collaboration, and drives continuous improvement efforts. The Director is responsible for recommending new technologies, maintaining regulatory compliance, and mentoring engineering talent. Duties/Responsibilities
Lead cross-functional teams, including R&D, Product Management, Quality, and Operations, to deliver on-time, in-scope results. Align resources to support business objectives and strategic initiatives across facilities. Foster a continuous improvement culture, driving results in NPI, order fulfillment, safety, scrap reduction, and cost of goods sold (COGS) reduction. Provide technical leadership in New Product Development, ensuring deadlines and standards are met. Recommend new manufacturing technologies for current and future product lines. Ensure regulatory compliance, foster a Quality First culture, and maintain good documentation practices. Present project status updates and technical issues to senior leadership and other stakeholders. Develop highly competent teams with strong technical skills and strategic focus. Manage department goals and metrics, addressing challenges as needed. Oversee the department's COGS budget, ensuring accurate forecasting and efficient spending. Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Mentor direct reports and foster a culture of accountability. Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology (Mechanical or Manufacturing preferred); Master's degree is a plus. 10+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering management, preferably in a highly regulated industry (e.g., medical devices). Strong technical expertise in manufacturing technologies, including high precision techniques, design for manufacturing, and design for reliability. Familiarity with FDA, ISO, and OSHA compliance standards. Proven experience leading NPI efforts, resource planning, and budget management. Strong communication, leadership, and team development skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and ERP systems. Six Sigma or other process improvement certifications are a plus. Ability to travel approximately three times per year.
