About the job Senior Database Administrator (DBA) Role Overview The Database Administrator (DBA) will play a critical role in the Teradata migration project by managing and optimizing the existing database environment. The DBA will oversee data integrity, ensure optimal performance, and maintain database security during and after the migration to the Dell Managed Colo environment. This includes supporting ETL processes, query optimization, and ensuring seamless integration with interfacing systems. Key Responsibilities Database Management: Maintain and monitor the Teradata database environment during migration, including production, development, and test nodes. Data Migration Support: Perform extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes while ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and quality during the migration. Performance Tuning: Optimize database performance by identifying and resolving bottlenecks, ensuring efficient data flow. Schema Design: Assist in refactoring and updating schemas, stored procedures, and queries for compatibility with the target platform. Data Validation: Conduct comprehensive data validation and reconciliation to verify the success of migration efforts. Integration Support: Collaborate with teams to integrate the target database with upstream and downstream systems such as Hadoop, Tableau, SAS, and Talend. Backup and Recovery: Ensure data security by managing backup and recovery processes using tools such as NetBackup and TARA. Compliance and Security: Maintain compliance with security and regulatory standards during all phases of the project. Documentation: Create and maintain detailed documentation of database configurations, migration processes, and troubleshooting protocols. Post-Migration Support: Provide support to resolve any database issues during the stabilization phase after migration. Required Skills and Qualifications Education: Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Experience: 7 years of experience in database administration, with significant exposure to Teradata environments. Technical Expertise: Proficiency in Teradata (v14.1 or later) database systems. Experience in database performance tuning and query optimization. Strong knowledge of ETL processes and tools. Familiarity with backup and recovery strategies using tools like NetBackup and TARA. Working knowledge of interfacing systems such as Hadoop, Tableau, SAS, and Talend. Skills: Proficient in SQL scripting for query tuning and automation. Understanding of data migration methodologies and challenges. Knowledge of regulatory compliance and data security protocols. Soft Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams. Preferred Qualifications Certification in database technologies (e.g., Teradata Certified Professional) Optional . Experience with modern platforms like ECS object storage and PowerFlex compute environments. Familiarity with scripting languages like Python or Bash for automation. Knowledge of additional database systems and cloud technologies. Work Environment The DBA will collaborate with architects, developers, and operations teams in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
