Summary

The Warehouse/Receiving Manager plans, organizes, and monitors the receiving, storage, and distribution of all items received from suppliers, ensuring a smooth and consistent operation so products and supplies are located and distributed to customers in an effective and efficient manner.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Maintain a personnel structure and staffing level to accomplish the Warehouse and Receiving functions effectively and efficiently.
  • Plan and coordinate work, train and motivate, monitor and evaluate performance of Warehouse and Receiving associates; ensure their ability to safely operate material handling equipment to move materials to and from storage configurations; counsel, record, and discipline as necessary.
  • Monitor the unloading of all materials into the Receiving department; ensure materials are staged for counting and inspection; ensure Receiving reports accurately report material received.
  • Resolve discrepancies with the Accounting department regarding invoices, packing slips, and receiver reports.
  • Monitor the flow of paperwork from receiving to inventory control for timely data entry. Oversee the movement of product in an efficient, effective, and safe manner.
  • Ensure products are stored properly to conserve space and comply with safety procedures. Oversee the rotation of inventories within the Warehouse.
  • Coordinate work hours including scheduling, approving time off requests, tracking absences, and managing overtime.
  • Assist management in performing annual performance reviews with receivers.

Working Conditions

  • This job operates in a Warehouse environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing, and fax machines.
  • This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Sunday through Saturday, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at a minimum (depending on freight arrival).

Physical Demands

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • This is largely an active role; however, some paper filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bending or standing on a stool as necessary. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 50 pounds.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • High school graduate with 3 to 5 years of experience in warehousing, receiving, inventory control, or materials management in a distribution environment, with 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of bar code technology and electronic data interchange.
  • Knowledge of the types of produce and produce handling and storage requirements.
  • Knowledge of food safety practices.
  • Well organized with a good understanding of the receiving processes.
  • Strong supervisory skills particularly with a diverse, front-line workforce and able to inspire performance.
  • Capable of lifting and moving up to 50 pounds.
  • Capable of driving a forklift and operating a pallet jack.
  • Positive and cooperative attitude, able to work well with vendors, distributors, and customers.
