POSITION PURPOSE:
Under the supervision of the Director of Dental Services and the Dental Manager, this position performs chairside work assisting in the treatment of patients; maintains records of treatments, supplies, and materials; performs related work as required. Performs all patient safety and procedures required of a Dental Assistant including but not limited to the Essential Functions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Sterilizes dental instruments and equipment by providing back up coverage for sterilization tech as needed. Oils and cleans equipment; cleans dental office and operatory.
- Maintains proper infection control procedures; wears required PPE per OSHA standards.
- Prepares patients for treatment by seating, taking blood pressure, and reviewing medical history; presents and witnesses signatures on all appropriate consent forms.
- Reviews patient chart and ensures all paperwork, x-rays and treatment are current.
- Accurately inputs patient information into patient chart and adheres to established safety protocols for all procedures.
- Performs routine laboratory work such as pouring and trimming working models; packages and ships models to appropriate lab; receives and organizes lab cases/slips upon delivery.
- Keeps current with software specific for electronic dental records, accurately charts each patients oral health, treatment plan, and chart notes; ensures consent forms are signed by all persons required, reports missing information in chart to appropriate staff member.
- Prepares operatories for dental procedure and assists chairside by handing various instruments and supplies to dentist.
- Prepares operatories for hygiene procedures and assists chairside by handing various instruments and supplies to the hygienist, along with assisting with perio charting.
- Completes assigned tasks in a timely manner.
- Demonstrates initiative and problem-solving skills using sound judgement. Assumes additional responsibilities as needed, with little or no direction, shows initiative in assisting others within the department.
- Attends in-service and other required meetings.
- Follows all Aviva Health policies and procedures; strictly adheres to HIPAA.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Begins each shift at the designated location at the scheduled time, meets attendance standards and works the hours necessary to perform the essential functions of the jobs.
- Strictly adheres to the ethics and Code of Conduct as established by the ADA, Oregon State Board of Dental Examiners, and Aviva Health.
- Conforms to safety work ethics, is flexible and shows dedication to position and community.
- Displays initiative, effort, and commitment to completing assignments efficiently and timely. Works with minimal supervision and exercises sound judgment and attention to detail.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school graduate or equivalent education.
- Ability to maintain and interpret various records relating to patient care and dental services; prioritizes patient care with regard to time and result.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
- Ability to be cross trained as a Dental Patient Services Representative.
