Job Summary:

The Phlebotomist plays a crucial role in preparing specimens for laboratory testing and ensuring high-quality sample collection. This position requires a professional who can draw blood samples while maintaining a trustworthy and reassuring environment for patients. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and attention to detail, ensuring a smooth process from specimen collection to laboratory submission.



Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge, and handle specimens with care, following all necessary protocols.
  • Greet patients in a professional and courteous manner, ensuring a positive experience.
  • Explain the venipuncture process clearly and with confidence, addressing any patient concerns.
  • Help reduce patient anxiety by providing a calm and reassuring environment before, during, and after the collection process.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in blood collection using straight and butterfly needles.
  • Review and fully understand physicians' orders for specimen collection.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, ensuring proper labeling and processing of samples.
  • Centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens according to test requirements.
  • Verify the accuracy of all test requisitions and computer labels against the script.
  • Package and store specimens for transport while maintaining integrity by ensuring the proper temperature and conditions.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in processing all specimens and following required protocols.
  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and guidelines.
  • Attend annual department training sessions to stay up-to-date with procedures.
  • Handle incoming telephone inquiries and assist with reading and understanding laboratory results.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 1+ year of experience performing phlebotomy in a laboratory or healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of and experience with blood collection methods and specimen processing.
  • Proficiency in patient interaction, ensuring clear communication and minimizing anxiety.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in labeling and specimen handling.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience working in a clinical or hospital setting.
  • Familiarity with OSHA and DEP regulations.
Certifications:
  • Phlebotomy Certification (if applicable per state regulations).
Note -
  • Shift: Monday/Thursday 7:30am-5pm Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday 7:30am-4pm E/O saturday 9am-2pm
