This is an exciting new opportunity for the YMCA of the Roses to be managing the Low Barrier Shelter located in the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Lancaster City. The hours of operation will be 7pm - 7am. This is a Full-Time position with 18 hours of PTO accrued monthly starting the first of the month after 30 days. Other benefits include but are not limited to a free membership to the YMCA, and health, vison, dental, etc. can be elected to start after 60 days.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Overnight Supervisor at Otterbein Shelter in Lancaster, PA serves as a key leader responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the shelter during evening and nighttime hours. This role provides essential support to shelter staff, maintains consistency between teams, and serves as a point of contact for administrative activities and new arrivals. The Overnight Supervisor also plays a critical role in setting the tone for the shelter environment and fostering a culture of respect, safety, and support.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Operational Leadership:
    1. Function as the operations lead Monday-Friday, providing guidance, support, and oversight to evening and overnight staff to ensure consistency in service delivery and adherence to shelter policies and procedures.
    2. Collaborate with the Shelter Coordinator and other team members to address emergent issues, resolve conflicts, and implement strategies for enhancing shelter operations and resident experiences.
    3. Foster a positive work environment that promotes teamwork, communication, and professional development among staff members.
  2. On-Call Rotation:
    1. Participate in rotating "On-Call weekends" with the Shelter Coordinator to provide after-hours support, respond to emergencies, and ensure continuity of care for shelter residents.
    2. Serve as the primary point of contact for on-call staff during designated shifts, offering guidance, problem-solving assistance, and coordination of resources as needed.
  3. Administrative Duties:
    1. Handle administrative activities of the night shelter, including maintaining accurate records, completing required documentation, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
    2. Oversee inventory management, security protocols, and facility maintenance tasks to uphold safety standards and operational efficiency.
    3. Conduct regular inspections of shelter facilities and equipment to identify and address maintenance issues or safety concerns promptly.
  4. Intake and Orientation:
    1. Serve as the intake person for new arrivals to the shelter, conducting intake assessments, explaining shelter rules and procedures, and orienting individuals to available resources and services.
    2. Coordinate with case managers, outreach teams, and partner agencies to facilitate appropriate referrals and support for shelter residents based on their needs and goals.
    3. Provide crisis intervention, de-escalation, and emotional support to individuals experiencing homelessness, demonstrating empathy, compassion, and cultural sensitivity.
  5. Setting the Shelter Tone:
    1. Set the tone for the shelter environment by modeling positive behavior, promoting a culture of inclusivity and respect, and fostering a sense of community among residents and staff.
    2. Implement strategies for conflict resolution, de-escalation, and trauma-informed care to create a safe and supportive atmosphere for all shelter occupants.
    3. Collaborate with staff members to develop and enforce guidelines for resident conduct, guest policies, and emergency procedures, ensuring the well-being of everyone in the shelter.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, human services, psychology, or a related field (preferred).
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in shelter management, residential care, or crisis intervention, with demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Knowledge of homelessness issues, trauma-informed care principles, and best practices in shelter operations.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work independently, make sound judgments, and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must work overnight shifts, including weekends and holidays as required.


WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • The employee may work in a high-stress environment, assisting clients with urgent needs such as intake procedures, crisis intervention, or responding to emergencies during overnight shelter shifts.
  • The employee must communicate effectively through clear speaking and attentive listening.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and move items weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Flexibility is required to work rotating shifts, including overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays.
