Directs, supervises and coordinates functions and activities for the Support Department. Will assist the Administrative Laboratory Director in the day to day operations of the laboratory.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESConsults with and keeps administrative staff informed of activities, needs and problems.Direct, supervise and coordinate technical functions and activities in assigned department.Establish service priorities, work routine and flow patterns and monitor work flow to assure prompt and efficient delivery of services.Assure compliance by department personnel with professional and departmental standards, policies and procedures, and requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies.Review and update department/section manuals and procedures as needed. Assist laboratory administration with determination of need for development of new services, policies and procedures.Effect cost control measures in the utilization of personnel, supplies, materials, equipment, etc.Assist in the selection of laboratory personnel.Evaluate performance and recommend personnel actions such as merit increases, promotions, transfers, disciplinary action and termination.Provide in-services and encourage professional growth and development of laboratory tegrate students and assign them to departments as determined by curriculum and clinical experience requirements.Purchase laboratory supplies as to maintain adequate inventory.Maintain hospital policies, and collaborate with establishing phlebotomy department policies, procedures, proficiencies, competencies, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.Responsible for staff completion of proficiency and competency checks as well as reading and signing of new and revised policies and procedures.Receive assignments, plan, organize and prioritize work duties to accomplish daily objectives.Attend meetings (administrative, departmental, divisional and operational) as required. Participate on committees as required / requestedObtain blood from infants, toddlers, children, adolescents, adult and geriatric patients for laboratory analysis.Properly identifies patients, labels specimens with appropriate information and places the bar code label in the proper position.Follows established hospital, laboratory, departmental and OSHA standards, policies, procedures and precautions in the performance of all job duties to ensure a safe work environment for self and others.When injured, notifies supervisor and completes employee injury report according to policy.Performs annual competency and educational programs as required by hospital policy and regulatory agencies.Demonstrates the complete understanding of established and published laboratory and hospital emergency procedures as noted by the Administrative Laboratory Director.Follows safe work practices and utilizes all required personal protective equipment and other safety equipment when required.Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.1. Must be able to adapt and work in a collaborative fashion with all hospital departments and customers.Must be able to work independently and promote teamworkMust be able to plan, organize and prioritize work duties to accomplish daily objectives EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE/TECHNICAL/OTHEREducation: Graduate of a certificate program in Phlebotomy or High-School diploma plus 6 months experience.Experience: One year phlebotomy experience.
