Amazon Web Services (AWS) Hardware Engineering is a leading-edge product development team that creates enterprise compute and storage server designs for our innovative web service and e-commerce technology platforms. Our designs are industry-leading in terms of performance, frugality, and operational excellence, and are critical to the success of the AWS business and the hundreds of thousands of customers who use utility computing today. We are seeking experienced Thermal/Mechanical Engineers to build the next generation of our cloud platforms.

What you will do: As a member of the Hardware Engineering Mechanical/Thermal/Robotics (MTR) Engineering team you’ll be responsible for the design of our server platforms. You’ll provide leadership in the application of new cooling and mechanical technologies to large scale server deployments in a continuous effort to deliver a world-class customer experience. This is a fast-paced, challenging position, and you’ll work with thought leaders in multiple technology areas. You’ll have relentlessly high standards for yourself and everyone you work with, and you’ll be constantly looking for ways to improve your products performance, quality and cost.

You will demonstrate a working knowledge of mechanical and thermal systems, with experience in systems integration of complex server products. You’ll have the desire to learn from new challenges and the problem solving and communication skills to work within a highly interactive and experienced team. Candidates must show a hands-on passion for their work and be able to communicate their ideas and concepts both verbally, and visually.

Key job responsibilities

  1. Perform mechanical and thermal design and development for complex electronic systems
  2. Design and validate systems and subsystems to meet program objectives
  3. Participate in the cross-discipline design process working with other HW and SW team members to develop optimized integrated solutions
  4. Conduct failure analysis and solution validation for product development and fleet systems
  5. Manage interaction with overseas resources
  6. Provide mentorship and technical reviews to a team of mechanical/thermal design engineers

Minimum Qualifications

  1. 7+ years experience in server technologies such as, thermal, mechanical, power, and signal integrity
  2. Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
  3. Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
  4. Experience with the project management of technical projects
  5. Master's degree in mechanical engineering, thermal engineering, or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $128,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $213,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
