Position: Cashier
Department: Finance
Employment Status: Permanent - Full-Time - Non-Exempt
Schedule: Monday through Thursday 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM
Compensation: Grade 3; salary range starts at $18.11/hour
POSITION INTRODUCTION
The Cashier is responsible for operating a computerized cashier’s drawer for the receipt of all City funds, balancing the cash drawer, preparing bank deposits, and maintaining records for miscellaneous revenue sources. This role ensures accurate and timely processing of various revenue streams and provides excellent customer service.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES - KNOWLEDGE – SKILLS - ABILITIES
- Revenue Receipt: Process all revenues received by mail, email, over the counter, EFT, and from other departments.
- Daily Balancing: Balance the cash drawer and revenue reports daily.
- Bank Deposits: Accurately prepare bank deposits for multiple accounts.
- Record Maintenance: Maintain records for all revenues receipted.
- Health Insurance Payments: Process and track health insurance payments.
- Spreadsheet Management: Maintain spreadsheets for excise taxes, franchise fees, garbage collection fees, and municipal court collections.
- Incoming Mail: Receive and process incoming mail and packages for all City offices. Sort mail by recipient, department, and date. Sign for certified or registered mail, recording the date of receipt, sender’s name, and the department to which the mail is routed. Deliver mail to the correct recipient or department and forward misdirected mail.
- Customer Service: Serve as telephone and office receptionist, responding to public inquiries, complaints, and requests.
- Deadline Management: Be aware of and meet all deadlines for month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close procedures.
- Additional Duties:?Perform other work-related duties and projects as assigned by the Finance Director and Assistant Finance Director.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- This position requires on-site work at the office, with no option for remote work.
- Comfortable carrying equipment up to 20 lbs.
- Frequent requirement to sit, stand, kneel, walk, talk, and listen to instructions.
USE OF TECHNOLOGY & EQUIPMENT
- Office setting with frequent use of technology and equipment.
CONTACT & SUPERVISION
- This position regularly communicates with citizens and business owners concerning City tax and fee payments and collections.
- This position does not supervise any employees.
- Reports directly to the Assistant Finance Director.

Requirements:MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- High school degree or equivalent (GED)
- Associate degree preferred with additional training in accounting or finance.
Certification/License:
- None
Experience:
- At least two years of work performance in a clerical or professional position that would enable the individual to perform the duties of the position.
