Cashier
Department: Business Office
Reports to: Business Office Manager
FLSA Status: Non-exempt, Union
Position Summary
The Cashier is responsible for transactions and procedures related to customer payments, related accounting and reporting for InterBel Telephone. This position is the first line of contact for all customers walking in the door.
Key Responsibilities
- Receives cash, checks and credit card transactions from customers in payment of bills and purchases, both in person and through the mail.
- Searches records to verify accuracy of billings and payments.
- Enters payments into the Cash Register Module and issues a receipt, if requested.
- May perform other records maintenance incidental to the receipt of payments.
- Balances and submits deposits and prepares Cash Sheets daily.
- Prepares spreadsheets, to include but not limited to, Phone Inventory, Modem Inventory, Miscellaneous Accounts Receivable, and Video Ads Payable.
- Answers the phones, transfers calls to appropriate party, and/or prepares Service Orders and Trouble Tickets when applicable, to include updating Manager.
- Responsible for the daily task of picking up and sending out company mail.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of service offerings.
- Basic understanding of rural telephone terminology, subscriber/community concerns, and changes in regulation and the marketplace.
- Ability to anticipate and respond to customer demands.
- Provide excellent customer service and maintain a calm and professional demeanor in the face of conflict/upset customers.
- Maintain a collaborative and positive relationship with staff.
- Acute attention to detail and ability to work accurately with figures.
- Maintain complete confidentiality of subscriber records in compliance with CPNI.
- Possess computer skills, ability to operate office equipment, and basic clerical skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Education & Experience
- Knowledge and skills usually acquired through one to two years of cashier experience, or strong customer service background.
Work Schedule
The work schedule for this position is from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Friday, with two 15-minute paid breaks, and a half hour unpaid lunch break.
Working Environment
This position is based in an office environment and may require prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing and staring at a computer screen.
**This position's wage scale is a union-negotiated rate with progressive step increases over the course of a 24-month period as follows:
