Program Description
Felton Outpatient Services Solano is a multi-disciplinary team of clinicians, medical providers, case managers, and peer support specialists that provide recovery-oriented, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed specialty behavioral health services to clients 18 and older (moderate level intensity), who are Solano residents and/or have Solano County Medi-Cal or Kaiser Medi-Cal. Using small shared caseloads, the team assists individuals experiencing severe mental illnesses that interfere with their ability to live in the community, attend appointments with professionals in clinics and hospitals, and manage mental health symptoms by providing the following outpatient services: mental health services (i.e., assessment, evaluation, plan development, collateral, family engagement, individual and group therapy, individual and group rehabilitation, and interactive complexity), case management/brokerage, crisis intervention, and medication support.
Job Description
Under the administrative supervision of the Director of TAY and Adult Mental Health Services, provide the following services to clients ranging in age from 18-65 years, all of whom have psychiatric disabilities and/or co-occurring mental health and substance abuse concerns: performing psychiatric evaluations, prescribing and managing psychiatric medications, assisting in the direction of treatment planning within a multi-disciplinary treatment team, and providing oversight and supervision to full-time staff Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and Nurses. Works closely with Felton’s leadership team to implement strategies that enhance client care and improve our medical & psychiatric practice.
Specific Responsibilities
- Exercises psychiatric responsibilities for psychiatric evaluation, treatment, and monitoring of clients.
- Orders diagnostic tests as needed.
- Provides supervision and support to Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, and/or Nurses.
- Supervises, and is party to the practice agreement with, Nurse Practitioner(s) and/or Physician Assistant(s). Completes performance reviews and signs their timesheet(s).
- Completes evaluations for conservatorship, disability applications, and performs involuntary hospitalizations, as needed.
- Schedules one’s own appointments and cross-covers nursing medication distribution duties when needed.
- Provides cross-coverage for other Felton psychiatrists when they are away.
- Coordinates treatment planning with counselors and case managers as needed.
- Coordinates medical issues with Primary Health Care providers.
- Maintains clinical records in accordance with mandated standards.
- Consults and provides ongoing education to non-medical staff in psychopharmacology and medical aspects of patient care.
- Performs crisis interventions, supportive counseling, and other direct mental health services, including case management, as needed.
- Works directly with providers to educate them on our care process and determine what can be done to improve overall care quality.
- Acts as the medical expert in dealings with vendors and non-medical facilities that work within the organization.
- Creates work groups and leadership committees that are designed to improve patient care and enhance relationships with providers.
- Attends medical provider meetings in alignment with organizational contracts and funding.
- Coordinates communication with the Felton Medical Team to ensure alignment and awareness of changing policies.
- Other related duties and responsibilities that may be assigned or requested from time to time.
Qualifications
- Completion of a 4-year accredited residency in psychiatry with current eligibility to take the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology exam (ABPN), or already ABPN board-certified.
- Current unrestricted California Medical License.
- Unrestricted DEA certificate.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience with chronically mentally ill and/or transitional age youth. Experience working with a multi-disciplinary team preferred.
- Knowledge of Community Behavioral Health Services and community resources.
- Knowledge of County, State, and Federal requirements for documentation and reporting.
- Assessing/Monitoring Skills: Assessing/Monitoring mental health of clients and making treatment plan/medication changes as needed.
- Supervisory skills to review and provide feedback to nurse practitioners and other clinical and medical staff.
- Experience-based clinical judgment to inform decision making.
- Excellent written and verbal skills.
- Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Cultural competency to work with individuals from all racial, cultural, and religious backgrounds and any sexual orientation.
- Willingness to do home visits for clients.
- Additional language skills a plus.
- Ability to be a team player with a welcoming attitude.

Reports to: Director of Adult and TAY Mental Health Services
Job Type: Part time (at least 12 hours/week)
Work Schedule: Onsite
FLSA Status: Exempt
Adjusted Salary Range: $190-$210 per hour (DOE)
