Job Description:
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement comprehensive waste management plans and procedures to minimize waste generation, maximize recycling and reuse opportunities, and ensure compliance with international maritime regulations and environmental standards.
Coordinate the collection, segregation, and disposal of waste streams generated onboard the cruise ship, including solid waste, hazardous materials, sewage, and greywater.
Conduct regular inspections and audits of waste management facilities and equipment to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure proper operation and maintenance.
Provide training and guidance to crew members on waste handling procedures, environmental regulations, and best practices for waste reduction and recycling.
Monitor waste generation trends and analyze data to identify areas for optimization and efficiency gains, such as waste reduction initiatives, waste-to-energy programs, and composting systems.
Liaise with port authorities, waste disposal contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with waste disposal regulations and facilitate the proper handling and disposal of waste during port visits.
Collaborate with onboard departments, including housekeeping, food and beverage, and engineering, to implement waste reduction strategies and promote environmental awareness among crew and guests.
Prepare and submit reports on waste management activities, environmental performance metrics, and compliance status to company management and regulatory agencies as required.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Marine Biology, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
years of experience in waste management, environmental compliance, or maritime operations, preferably in the cruise or hospitality industry.
Familiarity with international maritime regulations and environmental standards, such as MARPOL Annex V, Annex VI, and SOLAS.
Strong knowledge of waste management principles, practices, and technologies, including recycling, composting, waste-to-energy, and hazardous waste management.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively train and engage crew members at all levels of the organization.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multicultural environment, with a strong commitment to teamwork and customer service.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications for data analysis and reporting.
Certification in waste management, environmental auditing, or related fields is a plus.
