Known for delivering sophisticated legal services, the firm serves a wide range of clients, including public and private companies, government entities, and nonprofit organizations, in practice areas such as corporate law, financial markets, intellectual property, and litigation.
Job Description
The Accounting Manager will oversee various critical accounting functions, including international and intercompany accounting, bank covenant reporting, balance sheet analysis, and vendor management. Key duties include:
- Managing the Shanghai office's accrual reporting and intercompany accounting, ensuring accuracy in communications with external local providers.
- Preparing monthly intercompany reports and making recommendations for cash settlement.
- Monitoring the firm's bank accounts, preparing daily cash reports, and providing recommendations for cash balance consolidation.
- Coordinating monthly reconciliations for selected balance sheet accounts, working with the finance team to resolve issues promptly.
- Overseeing the preparation of bank reconciliations for all U.S. bank accounts, ensuring the resolution of outstanding operational issues.
- Reviewing and processing new vendor requests, ensuring proper entry into accounting software.
- Collaborating with Accounting and Finance leadership to develop and improve policies and procedures that strengthen controls and increase staff efficiency.
- Managing the recordkeeping and financial reporting for Katten's Employee Welfare Benefit Plan (VEBA) and Charitable Foundation.
- Responding to ad hoc requests from Accounting and Finance leadership and other departments.
The Successful Applicant
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting with experience in managing financial operations in a law firm or professional services environment. The candidate should have:
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; a CPA is preferred but not required.
- At least seven years of progressive accounting experience, including three or more years in a supervisory role, preferably within an AmLaw 50 firm.
- Extensive knowledge of domestic and international accounting standards and general ledger operations.
- Proficiency in accounting software, particularly Elite or Aderant, and advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, charts, formulas).
- Strong analytical and technical skills with a deep understanding of complex accounting and taxation principles.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a deadline-driven environment.
- Experience in recommending and implementing new policies and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
