Summary:

The Accounting Manager oversees the daily operations of the credit union's accounting department, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with GAAP and credit union standards.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  1. Prepares or assists in preparation of all credit union accounting records.
  2. Assists in development and implementation of department procedures to ensure compliance with credit union policies, as well as all applicable state and federal regulations. Responsibilities include but may not be limited to:
    • Accounts Payable and Receivable
    • General Ledger (including preparation, review, and approval of journal entries and month end closing processes).
  3. Supervisory Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    • Overseeing the daily operations of the Accounting department.
    • Maintaining a knowledgeable staff, sufficient to meet department responsibilities.
    • Hiring, training, directing, and evaluating employee performance for assigned staff.
    • Participating in hiring new employees and recommending promotions/transfers and salary adjustments.
    • Assisting staff with problems and allocating staff resources to as needed to maintain scheduled completion dates.
  4. Research and aids members, other credit union departments, and CU management.
  5. Works with auditors/examiners on internal/external audits and reviews.
  6. Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
Performance Measurements:
  1. Keeps all assigned GL accounts current and in balance according to established department standards and time frames.
  2. Ensures all subordinates' assigned GL accounts are current and in balance according to established department standards and time frames.
  3. Provides friendly, professional, and accurate service and support to all members and associates. Keep management informed regarding key operating issues affecting the department(s).
  4. Performs month-end activities, including balancing accounts (within 5 business days after the end of month) and producing board and staff financial reports within 7 business days after the end of each month.
  5. Ensures that the Credit Union's books and general ledger accounts are in balance and current.
  6. Increases efficiency and/or quality of service by implementing procedural changes as required.
  7. Effectively identifies problems through research and resolves them in a timely manner.
  8. Completes all required compliance/operations training and abide by credit union and governmental rules and regulations.
Knowledge and Skills:
  1. Experience
    • Two years to five years of similar or related experience.
  2. Education
    • A four-year college degree preferred or two-year college degree with a specialization in Accounting. Four-year accounting degree in lieu of similar or related experience.
  3. Skills
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills. The ability to motivate or influence others is a material part of the job, requiring a significant level of diplomacy and trust. Obtaining cooperation (internally and/or externally) is an important part of the job.
    • Proficient in the use of spreadsheet and word processing software.
Physical Requirements:
  1. Constantly repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers. This includes but may not be limited to keyboarding, writing, and filing.
  2. Constantly remaining in a stationary position, often sitting for prolonged periods.
  3. Occasionally adjusting or moving objects up to 75 pounds for various needs.
  4. The person in this position constantly communicates in person and in writing with members, managers, and colleagues. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  5. The ability to observe details at close range to assess the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
