ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST

A vacancy currently exists for a full-time Accounting Specialist in Pottsgrove's District Offices. This role maintains all district financial records and prepare reports, as needed, in a successful manner.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist in overseeing the Business Office operations of payroll, accounts payable, child accountingMain
  • and benefits, acting as a back-up as necessary.
  • Assist in the bi-weekly payroll process, including the monitoring of garnishments and voluntary withholdings, the payment of taxes, processing of payments and filing of all local, state and federal reports.
  • Perform responsibilities for the General Ledger, duties including but not limited to accounts receivable, invoicing, ledger posting, and treasurer's report.
  • Prepare financial statements and reports as required by the School Board, PA Department of Education and federal projects.
  • Monitor federal program expenditures.
  • Maintain debt service schedules and wire debt payments; prepare state forms for reimbursement.
  • Process all accounts receivable including state and federal subsidies.
  • Reconcile all district bank accounts.
  • Prepare and reconcile monthly retirement reports with PSERS.
  • Maintain tax collection records and serve as the district's liaison with tax collectors.
  • Act as District liaison with local, state and federal auditors.
  • Provide accounting services for Pottsgrove Recreation Board and the Pottsgrove Education Foundation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Business Administrator.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Three (3) years experience in a business office, preferably in public education
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Submission of pre-employment medical examination (Section 148 of the Pennsylvania School Code)
  • Submission of a report of criminal history record from the Pennsylvania State Police (Section 111 of the Pennsylvania School Code) Nonresidents and Pennsylvania residents who have not resided in the Commonwealth for at least two years prior to the date of application for employment are required to obtain an FBI Criminal History Record
  • Submission of a clearance report from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare in accordance with Act 151 of 1994
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
LOCATION: District Office

SCHEDULE: 260 days (12 months)

COMPENSATION: Comesurate with experience.
