The Department of Art & Art History and the African American Studies Program at The University of Mississippi invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Art History & African American Studies beginning August 21, 2025. This full-time, one-year position (with the possibility of renewal) requires a Ph.D. in art history or a closely related field. The successful candidate will be a humanities-rooted research scholar with broad expertise in the field of race and art in North America, and specific research expertise in African American art. The position is a joint appointment in African American Studies and Art & Art History.
Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate art history courses, developing a record of publication, and performing service appropriate to the position including participation in shared governance. The candidate will teach African American and Black diasporic art in the Americas, a course in African American Studies, art history surveys, and courses directly related to their research portfolio.
