Job Overview:
The Senior Engineer, Data will help build and maintain data pipelines and services to enable Cortland and its associates to implement a new operation model, positioning Cortland as an industry leader in multifamily and bringing added value to its investors, associates, and residents.
Roles You Will Play:
- Implement data pipelines and services that meet both business and technical requirements in an Agile environment.
- Design solutions and systems that enable scalability in operations, enable deeper insights, and enhance resident experience.
- Provide designs that are designed for both present and future by ensuring:
- Performance
- Scalability
- Reliability/Resilience
- Observability
- Accuracy
- Quickly learn and master new technologies, languages, patterns, and paradigms.
- Collaborate with stakeholders on proper scoping and prioritization.
- Provide detailed plans and tasks of execution/implementation of solutions.
- Provide mentorship via code reviews, design reviews, and teaching.
- Ensure team alignment on goals and implementation for timely delivery of quality products.
- Communicate effectively with engineers, product owners, delivery managers, and stakeholders.
- Work with engineers to ensure sound architecture, execution of design, and best engineering practices to build data integrations and services that are performant, extensible, scalable, and resilient using well established frameworks and tools in Azure like SQL Server, ADF, and Spark.

Building Blocks of Success:
- Degree in computer science or related field
- 5+ years as a data engineer
- Extensive knowledge of data service and pipeline designs
- Extensive knowledge of various data pipeline design patterns, including batch, streaming, and lambda architectures
- Extensive knowledge of databases and query optimization, views, indexing, and designing stored procedures
- Ability to provide short term solutions while still keeping us in line with long term vision
- 1+ year of cloud experience (Azure preferred)
