Production Operations Engineer

San Diego - CA (Hybrid)

The SIE IT - Corporate Applications department implements, enhances and supports products and services that underpin PlayStation's business operations. The Financial Management Application (FMA) is a strategic solution in this space delivering transactional-based data to core financial systems throughout SIE. We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Production Operations Engineer to support the delivery of technical solutions to ensure that the platform continues to meet the needs of Finance globally.

In this role you will be working on a dev-ops engineering team supporting a core financial platform in a fast-paced 24x7 cloud-based production environment. You will be interacting with other engineers within the FMA platform, business customers and stakeholders and other technical teams supporting this function. In addition to technical skills and experience, communication is also a key success factor in this role.

What you will be doing:

Helping to design, implement and support the FMA financial platform capabilities that underpin complex Finance accounting processes, by:

  1. Participating in the 24x7 production support of a finance technology stack in an AWS cloud environment to support PlayStation's operational excellence.
  2. Support business critical jobs, including successful processing over monthly accounting close.
  3. Participate in operations team to monitor system alerts; respond to job failures, and work on all issues which impact finance systems stakeholders.
  4. Deliver root cause analysis for difficult and complex issues faced by the finance systems team.
  5. Analyze transaction level detail to uncover processing gaps and respond to complex queries from finance, tax, and compliance departments.
  6. Develop custom reports for finance to support finance, legal, audit, and other teams.
  7. Financial data model utilizing Golang, SQL, JavaScript, NodeJS languages.
  8. Be agile and capable to switch between operations and development roles as needed.
  9. Use independent judgement and applied skills to develop new programs and processes to expand finance systems functionality.
  10. Work independently and collaboratively.
  11. Provide high levels of technical skills to deliver best results in the industry.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

These values and behaviors are evident throughout your previous experience:

  1. Demonstrable technical experience (4 years) in developing and supporting an event-driven architecture (EDA) with proven hands-on experience coding using Golang.
  2. Supporting critical production systems in a 24x7 environment.
  3. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  4. Understanding of basic accounting and industry business models such as subscriptions, preorders, royalties, revenue sharing, and bounties.
  1. Sound understanding of the following areas:
    1. Event-driven architecture using Apache Kafka (AWS MSK) and Golang.
    2. Cloud (AWS) architecture services (EC2, S3, EFS, MSK, Lambda), distributed systems and backend architecture.
    3. Event streaming, producers, consumers, event agents.
    4. Relational database systems, SQL, Snowflake. Experience in window functions and backend data model design.
    5. ETL tools such as Informatica.
  1. Working effectively with offshore / near shore service providers.
  2. Nice to have hands-on experience with bash shell scripting, Git-hub version control and Jenkins automation.
  3. Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision.
  4. Passion for pursuing new technologies and constantly learning.
  5. Experience in a variety of programming languages such as Golang, SQL, JavaScript, NodeJS, Shell Scripting.

    1. Issue Tracking (e.g. JIRA, Service Now)
    2. Collaboration (e.g. Confluence, Trello)
    3. Communication (e.g. Slack, Webex, Skype for Business)
    4. Version Control (e.g. Github)
    5. Automation (e.g. Jenkins, Ansible, CloudFormation, Terraform)
  2. Working within controlled/compliance-based environments (particularly Sarbanes Oxley) would be beneficial.

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
