Open Opportunity:

After a record setting year in 2024, Shields Manufacturing is seeking a Production Planner to provide production planning and work order management to the production control area. Acts as the lead planner in day-to-day operations. Advises management of the status of work in progress, material availability, and potential production problems to ensure that personnel, equipment, materials, and services are provided to meet customer needs.

Essential Duties:

  • Review and process customer orders; create and release work orders to the production floor.
  • Communicate disruptions in the production schedule affecting customer service levels to the Customer Service team. Provide recovery plans for affected orders.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the Planner Is and IIs
  • Assist the Planning Manager in setting and measuring team KPIs and Goals working towards company-wide strategic initiatives.
  • Act as the planning team SME (Subject Matter Expert) for all planning functions and processes
  • Represent the planning team in a cross-functional daily production schedule meeting with Production, Quality, and Inventory teams.
  • Periodic review of planned inventory levels on make-to-stock items.
  • Develop and document work procedures; provide training as required.
  • Evaluate and execute orders upon request from Customer Service.
  • Manage internal non-conforming material in conjunction with the Inspection Department.
  • Recommend improvements to existing processes and methodologies with a constant focus on continuous improvement. Lead cross-functional teams in continuous improvement events
  • Review portal download from customer for changes to requested customer delivery dates

Education/Qualifications:

  • BA or BS degree or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Minimum 5 years Production Planning experience in a manufacturing environment with demonstrated proficiency facilitating production/support process to meet customer demand.
  • APICS CPIM Certification desirable.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Robust knowledge of production planning practices both on a per-order and system-wide level. Can provide high-level summaries of department status relevant to tactical execution and strategic management.
  • Outstanding analytical, verbal, and written communication skills along with the ability to interact with people at all levels of the organization both inside and outside the company
  • Must be a quick learner and able to react quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must possess effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with office machines including phones, copier, and printers.
  • Must be able to navigate in a Windows based computer environment.
  • Experience with Syteline or similar Tier I/II ERP system
  • Must have at least an intermediate proficiency level with Microsoft Excel

Work Setting

Combination general office setting with typical moderate noise levels in a temperature-controlled environment and occasional subjection to open environment operational noise. Operates office equipment (computer, fax, copier, phone) as required to perform essential job functions.
