Overview:
The Production Planner reports to the Planning Manager and is responsible for optimizing production efficiency, ensuring on-time delivery of products, and managing inventory levels. This role plays a pivotal part in our company’s success by coordinating production plans, schedules, and resources to meet customer demand while minimizing costs and optimizing resource utilization.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Build Relationships throughout the organization to be able to act as a conduit between Customer Service, Engineering, Procurement and Production.
- Collaborate with various departments as needed to create an aggressive, yet attainable production schedule that meet the overall strategy as defined by the Planning Manager.
- Work with Customer Service on lead time requests to meet external customer needs.
- Work within your Leader-Leader Production Team to:
- Coordinate production workflow for one or more value streams.
- Determine manpower, equipment and raw materials needed to cover production demand for work orders as you plan them.
- Follow up to ensure your products will finish on time by frequent trips to the production floor, talking with leads and Supervisors and attending daily meetings.
- Proactively identify potential bottlenecks, supply chain disruptions, or other risks to production schedules. Develop contingency plans to mitigate these risks.
- Work with Production Supervisors, Leads and Line staff to create a detailed schedule for various machines in your areas of responsibility.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction. Participate in cross-functional teams focused on lean manufacturing and operational excellence initiatives.
- Must know Quality Policy and comply with all requirements of the Quality System Manual, Operating and technical procedures and work instructions as it applies to the position.
- Perform various other duties as assigned by the Manager.
Required Skills
- Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) accreditation or other relevant certification is advantageous.
- 1-3 years manufacturing experience in a production planning role, preferably in metal fabrication
- Vocational/Technical degree or equivalent preferred
- Sound knowledge of material requirements planning (MRP) and related software.
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Basic Computer Skills including Microsoft® Word, Excel, Outlook, and basic SAP
- Should be able to work closely with fellow employees in a positive manner
- Understand and comply with all HSE, Compliance and other Company Policies
- Must know Quality Policy and comply with all requirements of the Quality System Manual, Operating and technical procedures and work instructions as it applies to the position.
- Perform various other duties as assigned by Supervisor/Manager within the physical constraints of the position.
