Job Description

The Manufacturing Supervisor will supervise and coordinate activities of employees engaged in the various stages of part production, part fabrication and modification, repair of machine tools and parts. Additionally, responsibilities include working with customers to understand their requirements and prospect other entities to generate and sustain new business.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Personnel Supervision


  • Oversee a small group of tool room machinists and welders to ensure customer requirements are met.
  • Monitor employees' work and production levels and review performance.
  • Plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and sequences to meet production goals.
  • Create and maintain personnel records such as time and performance records.
  • Counsel employees about work-related issues and assist employees to correct unsafe conditions or violations of procedures and safety rules.
  • Coordinate employee training in machine/equipment operations, quality control, and work and safety procedures.
  • Interpret specifications; blueprints; job orders; and Company policies, procedures, and objectives for employees.

Production & Quality


  • Train others to machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as CNC Mills/Lathes, Manual Mills/Lathes, Drill Press, Jig Bore, Sanders, Grinders, and other support equipment.
  • Conduct test runs with completed tools or fixtures to ensure parts meet specifications and make necessary design changes.
  • Make sure tool requests and tool re-services are conducted offline.
  • Report machine and performance issues on a daily basis.
  • Work with Engineering on tool testing on a monthly basis.
  • Spot-check jobs for proper tool life usage.
  • Recognize and reduce tool waste.
  • Undertake a variety of jobs, in some cases with limited instruction or information from the customer.
  • Work from sketches, verbal, and print information in order to produce projects according to specifications.
  • Ensure high levels of production and efficiency.
  • Review processing schedules or production orders to make decisions concerning inventory requirements, staffing requirements, work procedures, or duty assignments, considering budgetary limitations and time constraints.
  • Utilize Information System (Plexus) to manage operations, ensure preparation of job instructions and details, monitor time and labor records, assess performance, and maintain department documentation.
  • Participate in design reviews on cross-functional teams to ensure that conformance to specifications, inspection, reliability, safety, and quality system objectives are met.
  • Manage the accuracy and consistency of the reject tag procedure.
  • Coordinate the selection and implementation of accurate machining tools and equipment, such as inspection gauges and tool kits.
  • Account for inventory as needed.
  • Develop and plan jobs by setting priority (i.e., part criticality, delivery, machine and tool availability, inspection, maintenance, and shipping) and assigning appropriate skill level to implement the processes to produce a quality product on spec and on-time.
  • Ensure finished parts are moved to the next operation (e.g. production, nonconformance, deburr, etc.) and facilitate the disposition of reject products and materials not meeting specifications.
