Job Summary:

Employee is responsible for the efficient operation of manufacturing processes within the facility; creates project plans, performs utilization studies, identifies capacity needs and constraints, and makes recommendations for improvements. Maximizes efficiency by analyzing equipment layouts, workflow, assembly methods, and work force utilization. Determines parts and tools needed to achieve manufacturing goals according to product specifications. Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the optics manufacturing field. Regularly interfaces with engineering, production support group, and proactively communicates with customers on project status and the resolution of issues that may arise during the production schedule. Responsible for transition of manufacturing processes from engineering / prototype stage to volume production.

Researches, designs, and develops tools, engines, machines, controls, equipment, and mechanical processes. Oversees production, installation, operation, maintenance, repair, and development of new, modified, and/or existing systems. Works closely with other engineering areas to obtain optimum utilization of equipment. Bachelor's degree required.

Summary of Essential Job Duties:

  • Support the RPO Plastics department in meeting production goals and maintaining robust quality standards.
  • Support quality issues in Plastics as required.
  • Review performance yields throughout the day, noticing trends and taking action to correct issues.
  • Lead root cause analysis investigations and experiments.
  • Inspect optical components against customer and government specifications.
  • Analyze test results, including those for optical or environmental performance.
  • Propose continuous improvement initiatives.
Experience Required:
  • The right candidate will be highly motivated and have the ability to take initiative with little supervision.
  • The right candidate will be comfortable working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with optical inspection and handling strongly preferred.
  • Experience in Injection molding/polymer materials required.
  • Strong background in problem solving techniques.
  • Ability to read prints, including tolerances.
  • Experience working with customers.
  • Experience with ISO 9001 standards preferred.
  • Experienced in ITAR regulations, specifications, and company compliance including, but not limited to, optics, mechanics, quality, verification, and testing is preferred.
Requirements and Competencies:

Language Skills:
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents. Ability to communicate effectively to team members and management.
Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required, optics or mechanical engineering preferred.
Mathematical Skills:
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts.

Physical Demands:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand: use hands to fingers, handle or feel: and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch: and talk and hear.
  • The job may involve prolong periods of sitting/standing.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. May involve prolonged periods of magnified inspection (eye strain)
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp.
  • The employee is frequently required to use the computer.
Work Environment:
  • May involve the use of oils and solvents.
  • Subject to some soilage and irritation from cleaning solutions. (Lab Coats provided)
  • Generally works in a clean environment and works to maintain the environment as such.
  • Safety Glasses are required
  • May require area specific safety training
  • This position works in a manufacturing environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne paper particles.
  • May work at different workstations as production needs require, or shifts from one station to another, during the production process.
