The Manufacturing Process Engineer will be responsible for evaluating and optimizing existing manufacturing processes and recommending new manufacturing methods to reduce cost, waste and lead time and improve product quality. This position will work side-by-side with management staff to discover inefficiencies in business processes and then determine the best ways to bring the company's business methods in line with its financial goals.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analyze and enhance manufacturing processes using Lean Six Sigma tools to ensure superior product quality, shorter cycle and lead times, and reduced manufacturing costs.
  • Design and execute special projects, including capital equipment implementation, workflow optimization, automation, and support equipment improvements.
  • Collaborate with vendors to evaluate products, equipment, parts, and tooling for compliance with quality standards and specifications.
  • Provide engineering support to production teams, troubleshooting technical issues and resolving problems efficiently.
  • Work closely with Process Engineering, R&D, and Product Line Management to implement updates for new or modified products, ensuring seamless process development from concept to production certification.
  • Oversee sustain engineering efforts by updating manufacturing routers and BOMs, ensuring accurate standard costs in the ERP system.
  • Prepare and manage capital expenditure (CAPEX) requests and serve as the project manager for approved initiatives.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement program by coaching, mentoring, and training employees as part of the Operational Excellence team.
  • Collaborate with department heads to develop and refine key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement strategies to meet business objectives.
  • Optimize manufacturing efficiency by analyzing workflows, space requirements, and equipment layouts for each production area.
  • Ensure product and process quality by designing testing methods, evaluating capabilities, and establishing manufacturing standards.
  • Provide actionable insights by analyzing production, labor, and material costs, and forecasting future needs based on data trends.
  • Generate comprehensive reports on product and process performance, summarizing data and trends for continuous improvement.
  • Maintain professional development by attending workshops, reviewing industry publications, networking, and participating in professional organizations.

Education and/or Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related discipline required.
• 10+ years in quality and/or process engineering or equivalent manufacturing experience preferably in high volume system assembly line environment
• Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification preferred
• Project Management skills, PMP certification preferred
• Knowledge of manufacturing continuous improvement methodologies including breakdown analysis/Root cause analysis, CAPA and FMEA
• Demonstrated capabilities in PLC, drive, robotics, and CNC programming; and other industrial automation preferred
• Competency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, and experience with ERP/MRP systems

• Strong analytical skills to address BOM errors and variances, and provide input on standard costs.
• Act as project champion with new product implementation projects pertaining to Assembly Operations & Energetics areas
• Working knowledge of explosives and explosive safety.
• Must have ability to acquire ATF Certification (previous certification accepted).
• Previous experience with hazardous materials handling a plus.

• Proficiency in German would be a plus
