Custodian Job at Yukon Public Schools in Yukon

Yukon Public Schools, Yukon, OK, United States, 73099

JOB TITLE: BUILDING CUSTODIAN

JOB SUMMARY: The building custodian serves an essential role in maintaining the building and grounds to support a healthy, safe, attractive learning and working environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Support of Building Functions/Operations- At the beginning of each day, the custodian will report to the office to determine any specific needs for the day. The principal or other hiring manager/supervisor may also communicate regular responsibilities to be completed (e.g. working in the cafeteria during lunches, monthly Playground and Facility Safety Reports, work orders). The custodian must remain alert to upcoming events and be proactive in planning, arranging, and preparing for such events.
  • Spot Cleaning- Yukon Public Schools provides contracted cleaning services as the primary cleaners. However, the custodian should be regularly checking all areas of the building on a daily basis and spot cleaning as appropriate and as needed. The custodian should also walk the building first thing in the morning and evaluate the job done by the cleaning service the night before. The custodian should follow the procedure to report any concerns associated with the performance of contracted cleaning services. However, reporting does not alleviate the custodian's responsibility to resolve the concern immediately (e.g. if the contracted service did not empty the trash the night before, the custodian should follow the reporting procedure to document the concern, but still empty the trash.) The custodian will also vacuum all entrances and clean fingerprints off glass in these areas throughout the day. Custodian is responsible for keeping their office neat and orderly.
  • Refreshing Resources- The contracted cleaning service shares responsibility in this function. However, throughout the day and during times of larger occupancy in the building (e.g. parent assembly), the custodian should be regularly checking soap dispensers, paper towel dispensers, etc. The custodian is expected to refresh as needed by keeping supplies in stock for yourself and cleaning service. The custodian will need to ensure that the cleaning service is using cleaning products provided by YPS and not their own household cleaners. The custodian will need to provide a weekly chemical inventory of what is in supply closets.
  • Light bulbs/Ceiling tiles/Building Esthetics- On a daily basis, the custodian should be checking ceiling tiles and light bulbs, and then refreshing as needed. While teachers will share the responsibility to report these needs, the building custodian should remain continually aware of the need and be proactive in replacing tiles and light bulbs in a timely manner. The building custodian will also wipe doors, handrails, paneling, bookcases, etc. with furniture polish as necessary. On non-school contracted days, the custodian will touch up paint.
  • Exterior of Buildings- On a weekly basis, the custodian should survey/walk the exterior of the building to pick up trash, observe and either report or rectify security/safety concerns, and communicate any needs associated with landscaping, exterior repairs, and the parking lot. During certain weather times (e.g. fall tree shedding), the custodian will need to more frequently check and clean exterior areas where leaves accumulate, grass settles, etc. Except in the case of digital marquees, the custodian is responsible for updating the marquee as directed by the building leader. The custodian is responsible for proper flag protocol and display.
  • Safety- The custodian is to comply with all workplace safety guidelines and laws. This includes District, state, and federal regulations and expectations.
