Job Description
Title: Custodian
Supervisor: Facilities and Maintenance Coordinator
Department: Facilities and Maintenance
FLSA Status: Hourly Non-Exempt
Position Summary:We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Custodian to join our facilities team. The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment throughout the facility. This role is essential in ensuring that all areas, including offices, restrooms, public spaces, and break rooms and others, are kept in excellent condition.
Key Responsibilities:- Cleaning and Maintenance: Perform routine cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and disinfecting. Keeps facilities in a clean and orderly condition. May perform heavy duty cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish.
- Restroom Cleaning: Regularly clean and sanitize restrooms; replenish supplies such as soap, toilet paper, and paper towels.
- Trash and Recycling: Empty and dispose of trash and recycling bins, ensuring proper segregation and disposal.
- Surface Cleaning: Clean windows, mirrors, and glass doors; dust and wipe down furniture and fixtures.
- Floor Care: Clean, buff, and maintain floors, using appropriate equipment such as floor buffers and polishers.
- Minor Repairs: Perform basic maintenance and repairs (e.g., changing light bulbs, fixing leaky faucets).
- Supply Management: Monitor and maintain cleaning supplies, submitting requests for restocking as needed.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including handling cleaning chemicals safely and reporting any potential hazards.
- Special Projects: Assist with setup and breakdown of furniture for events, meetings, or special projects/locations as needed.
- Perform other reasonably related duties as may be assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of specific materials, methods, tools and equipment required to complete various cleaning practices.
- Capable of using a variety of cleaning products and equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
- Effective communication skills: must be able to carry out verbal instructions, read labels and signs.
- Time management skills.
- Ability to complete tasks on time and work both independently with little supervision, and as part of a team.
- Preference will be given to candidates with a valid driver's license and driving record.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in custodial or janitorial work is a plus.
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment (e.g., vacuums, floor buffers, etc.).
- Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safety procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.
- Physical stamina to perform cleaning duties, including lifting up to 50 lbs and standing for extended periods.
Skills and Competencies:
- Excellent time management skills.
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other staff and supervisors.
- Good communication skills.
Work Environment:
- The role involves physical labor, including bending, standing, lifting, and moving objects.
- The Custodian may be exposed to cleaning chemicals and must follow safety protocols.
Education and Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Related experience preferred.
- Must possess a valid Guam Drivers License
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 08:00 to 17:00 and or as required to deliver the objectives.
