Job Duties
The Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center, a GREAT PLACE, doing GREAT THINGS, because of GREAT PEOPLE, is seeking applicants to fill a Custodian position in our Housekeeping Department. This is a full time/salaried position with benefits.
Examples of benefits provided include paid time off that includes 13 holidays, annual leave, sick and personal leave. The primary purpose of this position is to perform housekeeping duties that will keep the Center to the highest standards of cleanliness. The successful candidate will possess a high level of ethics, professionalism and perform duties in a confidential manner. The Custodian will perform a variety of housekeeping duties including, but not limited to, vacuuming, dusting, mopping, cleaning restrooms, windows, mirrors, tile and carpeted floors, and classroom and common areas furniture as needed. On-the-job training will be provided related to equipment usage and the Center's custodial policies and procedures.
This position primarily works night shift with rotating weekend and some holiday work required.
Minimum Qualifications
•A work history demonstrating considerable experience performing duties as an industrial housekeeper, custodian, or janitor.
•Experience demonstrating the ability to follow safety and security policies and procedures.
•Experience demonstrating the ability to lift and move furniture, supplies and equipment.
•Experience demonstrating the ability to read, write, understand and follow instructions.
•Experience demonstrating knowledge, skills, and abilities to use a computer to perform basic computing tasks (send/receive email, etc.)
•Experience demonstrating the ability to work independently without close supervision, and in a team environment.
•Experience demonstrating the ability to complete work tasks timely and meet assigned meet deadlines.
•Experience demonstrating the ability to provide customer service as needed to students, faculty & staff, customers, and other stakeholders important to the Center.
Additional Considerations
•Knowledge of and/or experience in commercial cleaning and ability to operate custodial equipment, including floor buffer and carpet shampooer.
