JOB TITLE: CUSTODIAN

FLSA: NON-EXEMPT

DIVISION: SERVICES - FACILITIES

REPORTS TO: FACILITY MANAGER

LOCATION: MANHATTAN, NY

SALARY: $19.23 P/H


SUMMARY: The custodian, under the direction of the Facility Manager, performs all janitorial maintenance and

related duties to maintain a safe and clean facility, including interior and exterior grounds of a NYC DHS contract

shelter facility. Experience in the shelter environment is preferred, but not required. Position may require some

weekend and/or evening hours. Proof of Covid-19 vaccination is required.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


Complete all scheduled custodial duties in accordance with assigned custodian cleaning checklist

● Cleans floors, hallways and common areas and may include vacuuming, waxing and buffing floors.

● Cleans bathrooms, kitchen, laundry room, lobby and offices. Keeps bathroom supplies stocked.

● Assembles, arranges and cleans furniture as needed.

● Cleans and maintains parking lot, outdoor property as needed, including snow removal at frontage area.

● Keeps sidewalks clean and swept 18” into street per NYC Sanitation requirements.

● Gathers and prepares trash and recyclables for sanitation collection.

● Checks and replaces all interior and exterior light bulbs.

● Assists with minor maintenance items as needed.

● Performs other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or GED is required. Minimum of two years of Janitorial experience is required, including

experience with buffing and cleaning equipment. Must be able to communicate clearly with peers and

management and work as part of a team. Must be able to lift, push or pull 50 lbs. Ability to show patience and

understanding toward the client population we serve is a must.
