Job Description / Essential Elements:
DUTIES: Operates on assigned schedule prepared by the Lead Custodian and coordinated with school program and special evening activities. In assigned instructional areas dusts flat surfaces, chalk troughs, shelves, and student furniture; empties pencil sharpeners and waste baskets; vacuums carpets and/or sweeps tiled floors; spot cleans carpets where necessary; scours sinks and drinking fountains; washes flat surfaces and walls when necessary. Replaces lights and/or fluorescent lamps. Cleans assigned non-instructional areas. Cleans restrooms. Assumes responsibility for the closing of the school each day. Provides needed assistance to staff and general public for special evening activities. Reports needed major repairs promptly to the principal and day custodian. Reports damage to school to the principal or day custodian. Reports needed equipment to the lead custodian. Custodian position is subject to day/night shift.
QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from eighth grade or equivalent. Valid California Driver License. Valid First Aid/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) card desirable. Knowledge of modern cleaning methods and the use and care of cleaning materials and equipment. Ability to lift 70 pounds on a continuous basis. Ability to perform assignment, follow work schedule and other written and oral instructions. Must be able to read, write and communicate in English. As per Teamsters Negotiated Agreement Article 10.1.1.2 for bargaining unit members, transfers and advancements, the selection criteria shall be training, skills, and previous experience. If training skills and previous experience are equal, seniority will be the determining factor.
