Job Description
Key duties and responsibilities will include the following:
- Lead the creation and implementation of a welding program in accordance with industry standards (e.g., AWS, ASME) and collaborate with quality teams on necessary enhancements for certification.
- Provide on-site assistance to welders and engineering teams during welding and additive processes.
- Educate staff on welding concepts and practices.
- Engage in research and development initiatives for process improvement and product innovation, working with cross-functional teams to explore new markets.
- Collaborate with non-destructive testing teams to develop and maintain an effective weld inspection program.
- Develop, document, and implement manufacturing procedures for welding and additive manufacturing.
- Create and submit work procedures for both new and repaired products for customer approval.
- Review process and welder qualification samples, ensuring adherence to sustainable quality practices in collaboration with materials labs.
- Provide qualification and oversight for suppliers as needed.
- Analyze and communicate industry and customer specifications and requirements.
- Utilize scientific methods to troubleshoot and resolve welding-related issues.
- Provide technical resolutions for welding quality rejections and oversee corrective actions.
- Stay updated on industry trends and serve as a subject matter expert in welding and additive manufacturing.
- Conduct failure analysis for rejected welds and implement corrective actions as necessary.
- Represent the organization in relevant industry associations and forums.

The Successful Applicant
The successful applicant will possess the following:
- Bachelor's Degree in Weld Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or Materials Science with a focus on welding processes preferred. Equivalent industry experience will be considered.
- AWS Certified Weld Inspector certification is a plus
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Weld Engineer or in applicable additive manufacturing research.
- Proven experience in establishing and maintaining a certified welding program.
- Intermediate understanding of physical metallurgy principles related to welding, metalworking, and heat treatment.
- Technical expertise in: Weld Engineering, Physical Metallurgy, Heat Treatment Principles, Mechanical Testing, Microstructural Interpretation, Failure Analysis, NDE, and industry/customer specifications.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with welding automation and robotics.
- Experience in additive manufacturing techniques (Direct Energy Deposition, Friction Stir Welding, Electron Beam Welding)
What's on offer:
- Base salary $90,000 - $105,000 depending on level of experience
