The Cordova Recreation & Park District is seeking a full-time Senior Recreation Coordinator at the Mather Sports Complex. We are an award-winning agency that thrives on positive relationships and partnerships in our community.
This is a full-time onsite position with a comprehensive benefits package that includes fully paid medical, dental, and vision for the employee and all eligible dependents along with participation in the CalPERS Retirement System.
Work schedule requirement: Full-time with the ability to occasionally work a varied schedule to accommodate the programming demands that will consist of some evenings, weekends, and holidays. This classification has the option of working a 9/80 schedule.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal Senior Recreation Coordinator - Mather Sports Complex candidate has knowledge in sports and fitness programming and is skilled in developing and maintaining a successful recreation culture. The Coordinator is responsible for district-wide athletic field and facility rentals, rental permit administration, instructor contracts for sports and fitness classes, sports camp programming, and front desk/office training and oversight at the Mather Sports Complex. Must possess excellent verbal communication, exceptional organizational and time management skills and have the ability to work both independently and as a team, building and maintaining positive working relations with all co-workers, public and private user groups, customers, contract instructors, and other members of the general public. Duties are primarily performed at the Mather Sports Center but includes travel to various recreation sites, including athletic fields, parks, community centers, schools, and other locations within CRPD boundaries.

Summary Description
Under general supervision of a Recreation Supervisor, provides, organizes, coordinates, markets, implements, and evaluates a wide variety of recreational and social programs and services at community centers, playgrounds, parks, schools, and other sites; designs, implements, and evaluates programs, classes, services, activities, and events to meet the needs of the community; provides leadership and general guidance for recreation programs and services involving children, teens, adults, and seniors; prepares brochures, flyers, advertising and other publicity materials to promote recreation programs; answers questions, explains recreation programs and services to the public, and responds to complaints; and maintains records and reports.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This is the highest level class in the Recreation Coordinator series. This class is distinguished from the Recreation Coordinator in that the Senior Recreation Coordinator is responsible for providing, organizing, coordinating marketing, implementing and evaluating large recreation programs including providing a higher level of decision making and independent action required to carry out advanced assignments; acting as a liaison with internal and external boards, commissions, user groups, and other stakeholders; having a high level of involvement with the department budget process; and supervising lower level personnel and volunteers. Positions in this classification will also require specialized certification related to assigned program(s).

SALARY: Employees are eligible for merit increases from 1 to 5 salary steps after the first year of employment, and thereafter annually based on their work performance and until they reach the top of their step salary range.
SOCIAL SECURITY: Authority employees are covered by Social Security; therefore, they are required to contribute (6.2%)
MEDICARE: Employees hired after March 31, 1986, contribute 1.45% to Medicare.
RETIREMENT: Employees are enrolled in a defined benefit retirement program under the CalPERS Retirement System as follows:
*If hired prior to December 31, 2012, 2% at age 55 retirement formula, employee contributions 7% of compensation earnable.

- Works with user groups, businesses, organizations, schools, and other individuals regarding rental needs for tournaments, games, practices, leagues, clubs, and special events.
- Facilitates the entire process for athletic field and facility rentals district-wide; communicates athletic field/facility options and availability to customer; initiates the application process; creates all permits, and ensures all required signatures are obtained, accurate and current insurance documentation is provided, and all payments are made as required; follows up with renter/rental group to ensure customer satisfaction and evaluates need for improvements.
- Effectively communicates in advance with Park Services and other recreation staff regarding all needs and requirements for upcoming rentals.
- Meets on-site with rental groups to ensure CRPD rules and regulations are followed; evaluates constraints and potential problems and impact on both rental groups and surrounding neighborhoods; reports findings to Recreation Supervisor II, providing feedback and suggestions on recommended action(s).
- Perform a variety of administrative duties in support of recreation programs; answer phones; gather information and prepare reports; maintain a variety of records and reports.
Coordination of Recreation Programs:
- Plans, organizes, coordinates, markets, and implements sports camps, contract classes, special events, and other related activities.
- Develops new recreation programs, events, and activities and review current programs for effectiveness and interest.
- Promote and coordinate specific activities within assigned program area; coordinate the design, printing, and distribution of program specific informational material including brochures, flyers, schedules of events, pamphlets, and other publicity materials.
- Monitors the performance of daily operations, functions, and services at the Mather Sports Complex and maintains high standards and customer satisfaction.
- Coordinates Mather Sports Center front desk/office operations; develops, orients, and regularly trains staff on front desk operational policies and procedures; updates staff with procedural changes; ensures exceptional, friendly, and consistent customer service is provided at all times; trains staff to provide a robust and friendly experience to all guests
- Oversee money transactions related to department's programs and operations. Ensures fiscally responsible cash handling and established inventory maintenance procedures are followed
- Recruits, assigns, trains, coordinates, and reviews the work of subordinate staff and volunteers in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, and procedures for the assigned programs and services. Provides leadership, coaching, mentoring, and position direction to all subordinate staff. Substitute for subordinate staff as necessary.
- Create and maintain budgets for recreational and sports programs, classes, camps, leagues and events, and related activities.
- Research and apply for grant initiatives to provide supplemental funding to programs. Identify and cultivate sponsorship opportunities to financially support programs.
- Act as Department representative to local residents, governmental agencies, community groups, private businesses, and others concerning questions, problems, concerns, and activities in the provision of recreation programs and facility operations; attend neighborhood meetings to solicit community support.
- The Senior Recreation Coordinator may also perform other duties as required.

In addition, all regular full-time employees shall be issued two (2) floating holidays per calendar year starting January 1st.
SICK LEAVE: Sick leave is earned at the rate of 3.69 hours per pay period (equivalent to eight hours per month), beginning with the first month of employment. All unused sick leave may be carried forward into ensuing years and become part of the current allowance. There is no limit to the amount of sick leave that can be accumulated. Sick leave cannot be used until earned.
UNIFORMS: Uniforms are provided to employees in designated positions.
